“I’m very excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Virginia. UVA has fantastic academics and athletics, but what really sold me on my decision was the great team atmosphere. I have never met a group of people who were more genuine and welcoming than at UVA! Ever since I visited, I knew that this is the perfect fit for me and that I can reach my full potential both academically and athletically! Go Hoos!”
Paige Madden, #8 on our list of top 20 recruits from the high school class of 2017, has made a verbal commitment to the University of Virginia for 2017-18. Madden is a senior at UMS-Wright Preparatory School in Mobile, Alabama and one of the most prolific record-breakers in AHSAA Swimming and Diving history. As a freshman she broke the state records in the 200 IM; the next year she etched her name in the record books for the 100 free and 100 back. Furthermore, as a junior in December of 2015, she added the 200 free but missed Chloe Sutton’s 500 free record by .40.
Madden swims club for City of Mobile Swim Association. She is one of the top 200/500 freestylers in the class of 2017, and is on the all-time top 100 lists for 17-18 girls in SCY and LCM 200 free, 500/400 free and 200 back. Madden swam the 100/200/400m freestyles and 200m back at Olympic Trials this summer; she also qualified in the 800 free. She has the range and versatility to be able to develop in whichever direction she is most needed at UVA: the shorter end of the freestyle range, and with that, a key role in relays; or the longer freestyle range. She could even be a significant contributor in the 100/200 backstrokes.
