For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Kyle Raskay from Broomfield, Colorado has announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at Division II Grand Valley State University beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.
“I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Grand Valley State University! I’m so grateful to all of my coaches through the years getting me to this point, as well as the support of my family. I’m incredibly thankful for this opportunity and I can’t wait for my future. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent the Lakers. Anchor up! ️ @gvsuswimdive #anchorsup #gvsu”
Raskay swims for Front Range Barracudas out of Broomfield, CO. He competed at Winter Juniors West at the beginning of December and earned a best time in every event he competed in. Those times included the 50 (21.21), 100 (46.38), and 200 (1:43.79) freestyles, 100 butterfly (50.16), and 200 IM (1:54.37).
He began his senior year this fall at Legacy High School in Broomfield, CO. In June, he competed at the Colorado 5A State Championships and earned a seventh place finish in the 200 IM as well as a 12th place finish in the 100 butterfly. He also is a member of the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays that hold district records. Both of those relays also earned NISCA All-American honors.
His best short course yards times are:
- 50 freestyle: 21.21
- 100 freestyle: 46.38
- 200 freestyle: 1:43.79
- 100 butterfly: 50.16
- 200 IM: 1:54.37
Grand Valley State University (GVSU) is a public university located in Allendale, Michigan, a suburb of Grand Rapids. The school is a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The GVSU men have been dominant in the conference recently as they have won the last seven conference championships.
The team captured the conference title at the 2021 GLIAC Championships. Based on his best times, he would have made the ‘A’ final of the 100 butterfly and the ‘B’ final of the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles as well as the 200 IM.
Raskay will arrive on campus in fall 2022 as a member of the class of 2026 along with sprint freestylers Evan Scotto Divetta and Matt Bosch, breaststroker Brandon Gardner, and distance freestylers Connor French and Zach Wheeler. Raskay will arrive on campus just in time as the team’s fastest 100 butterflier, Oscar Saura-Armengol, will graduate this spring (they will overlap for one year if Saura-Armengol takes his COVID-19 fifth year).
