LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams fell to the College of William and Mary Saturday, with the Tribe men winning the men’s competition 168-120 and the women’s half 207-64. The Keydets seven seniors were honored in a pre-meet ceremony.
Freshman Jack Sheehan won the men’s 100 breaststroke in 1:00.25 and also took the 200-yard IM in 1:58.51. He was second in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:11.66. Senior Jacob Smilie won the 100-backstroke in 54.02 and was second in the 200 back in 1:58.78. Freshman Kai Green swam a 21.96 in the 50-yard free to place first and Bridger Thurston won both diving events, scoring 224.60 in the 3-meter and 233.10 in the 1 meter. Conner Jorgensen was second in the 1000 yard freestyle in 9:58.63 and Ryan Schmitz finished second in the 100 free in 49.48.
Sophomore Sophie Svoboda earned a victory in the women’s 100 breaststroke in 1:08.94. Senior Calle Biles won both the 1 meter (178.95) and 3 meter (183.25) diving competitions.
Both teams travel to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) next Saturday for a 1 p.m. meet.

The William & Mary men’s swimming team won its fourth in a row on Saturday, defeating VMI 168-120 on the road with victories in 10 of the 14 swimming events. The Tribe improved 5-1 overall on the season, while VMI fell to 1-3 on the year.
How it Happened
– With most swimmers competing in off events, W&M was still able to win the majority of events in the meet including both relays and two-thirds of the individual races.
– Leading off was the 200 medley relay, won in 1:36.76 by the team of Christopher Pfuhl (Charlotte, N.C.), Kyle Demers (Virginia Beach, Va.), Jake Kealy (Wilton, Conn.), and Ian Thompson (Alexandria, Va.).
– Pfuhl also won an individual event, taking the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.17.
– In the 1,000 free, junior James Mostofi (Darien, Conn.) won his first career race, stopping the clock in 9:54.87.
– Senior Ian Bidwell (Pelham, N.Y.) won twice individually, taking the 200 free in 1:45.87 and then coming back late to win the 500 free with a time of 4:45.37.
– His classmate Chris Balbo (Short Hills, N.J.) also won twice in off events. He took the 200 back in 1:56.30, and then was the first to the wall in the 100 fly in 51.79 seconds.
– Sophomore Jack Galbraith (Vienna, Va.) won his first career race in the 100 free, timing 48.91 seconds.
– Freshman Conor Sokolowsky (Williamsburg, Va.) also picked up his first win, and the first for the freshman class this season, winning the 200 breast in 2:11.21.
– W&M’s final victory of the day came in the 400 free relay, where Bidwell, Kealy, Devin McNulty (Herndon, Va.), and Thompson combined to swim 3:13.11 for the win.

William & Mary will have the better part of two weeks off to prepare for the semester-ending West Virginia Invitational. The three-day, prelim/final meet will run Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 21-23, in Morgantown, W.Va.
The William & Mary women’s swimming team cruised in its final dual meet of the fall season Saturday, hitting the road to beat VMI, 207-64. The Tribe improved to 3-4 on the season, while the Keydets fell to 0-3.
How it Happened
– W&M won 13 of the 14 swimming events in the meet against the under-manned Keydets squad, and took the majority of scoring spots in every event.
– Leading the way was freshman Brooke Lamoureux (Virginia Beach, Va.), who won two individual events for her first two collegiate victories, and also swam on the winning 200 medley relay. She led-off that relay, teaming with Ellie Henry (Southern Pines, N.C.), Missy Cundiff (Leesburg, Va.), and Anna Kenna (Chantilly, Va.) to hit the wall in 1:48.92.
– Individually, Lamoureux won the 200 breast in 2:26.69, and made the quick turnaround to take the 200 IM as well in 2:12.36.
– Cundiff also picked up an individual win of her own, swapping to the 100 back to win that event in 1:01.17.
– Freshman Kim Jogis (Larchmont, N.Y.) won her first individual race, taking the 1,000 free in 10:43.66.
– Two more freshmen, Elizabeth Intihar (Columbus, Ohio) and Grace Tramack (Palo Alto, Calif.), won the 200 fly in 2:13.40 and the 100 free in 55.11, respectively.
– The senior class won three individual events. Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.) took the 200 free in 1:57.13, while breaststroker Lauren Freeman (Fairfax Station, N.Y.) swapped to the 50 free and touched the wall first in 25.89 seconds. Julia Bland (Sea Girt, N.J.) added a win in the 200 back, in 2:11.68.
– Junior Tara Tiernan (West Hartford, Conn.) won the 500 free in 5:09.84, and sophomore Sonora Baker (Mechanicsville, Va.) took top honors in the 100 fly with a time of 1:00.14.
– Rounding out the day was the 400 free relay, won by the team of Henry, Tiernan, Tramack, and freshman Maura Graff (Henrico, Va.) in a time of 3:41.53.
