Virginia Rainer to join Milligan University (NAIA) for Fall 2022

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Virginia Rainer from Cedar Bluff, Alabama announced her commitment in April to swim and study for NAIA Milligan University beginning during the 2022-2023 school year.

I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Milligan University! I chose Milligan for the nurturing Christian environment, the great nursing program and its stellar academic reputation.  I love what coach Scarth is doing with the swim program there and I’m so excited to join the swimmers that I have already met!  They seem to have a great team atmosphere and, OH, they have a taco bar! I’m so grateful for my supportive and encouraging mom and dad, my fantastic SSA family, and my incredible coach! I’m truly #blessed!”

Rainer swims for Scottsboro Swim Association out of the Huntsville, AL suburbs. Back in April, Rainer set personal bests in the short course 50 (27.12) and 100 (58.89) freestyles at the Scottsboro Swim Association Sprint Medal Meet.

This summer, she competed at the Huntsville Swim Association Long Course Invitational and achieved best times in the 50 (31.00), 100 (1:07.33), and 200 (2:29.40) freestyles as well as 100 backstroke (1:16.27), and 100 breaststroke (1:27.69).

Rainer will begin her senior year this fall at Cedar Bluff High School. Her best short course times are:

  • 50 freestyle: 27.12
  • 100 freestyle: 58.89
  • 200 freestyle: 2:09.04
  • 100 backstroke: 1:05.83
  • 100 breaststroke: 1:15.44

Milligan University is a private university in Elizabethton, Tennessee. The school is a member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

At the 2021 Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships, the Milligan women finished as runner-ups. The team was only 12 points behind conference champions Asbury University.

Based on her best times, Rainer has the potential to make an immediate impact for Milligan at the conference level. She would have placed in the A final of the 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke as well as the B final of the 50 and 200 freestyles at the 2021 conference meet.

Rainer will arrive on Milligan’s campus next fall along with Zoey Delaney as a member of the class of 2026.
