Mary Kate Farrell from Greenville, South Carolina has made a verbal commitment to Villanova University for the 2022-23 school year.

A rising senior at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, Farrell is a four-time individual state champion for the Knights. As a sophomore, she won the 100 breast (1:07.72) and 200 free (1:55.01) at the 2019 SCHSL 3A Girls Swimming and Diving Championships. Last fall, she won the 200 free (1:52.24) and 500 free (5:05.14) at the 2020 state meet.
Farrell does her club swimming with Team Greenville. She is a USA Swimming Futures qualifier in the 100/500/1650 free, 100 fly, and 400 IM. So far in 2021 alone, she has updated her lifetime bests in the SCY 50/100/200/500 free, 100/200 back, 100 fly, and 400 IM and the LCM 100/200 free, 100 back, 200 breast, 100/200 fly, and 200 IM. Almost all of those LCM times came from Team Greenville’s Dash and Splash in June, where she finaled in the 100 free (4th), 200 free (11th), 200 breast (9th), 100 fly (9th), and 200 fly (10th). She also placed 12th in timed finals of the 400 free and 7th in the 1500.

Farrell will join the Wildcats’ class of 2026 with Arabella Lee. Villanova distance freestylers Nicole Welch and Emily Provenzo will have graduated by the time Farrell arrives, but she will overlap with Brenna McLaughlin and Molly Benson.
