Sydnie Collins from Council Bluffs, Iowa, will swim and study at Youngstown State University beginning in the fall of 2024. The Lewis Central High School graduate wrote on social media at the time of her commitment:
“I am so ecstatic to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career as a D1 swimmer at Youngstown State University! Huge thanks to Coach Smith at YSU for giving me this opportunity, and Rick Paine with ACC for helping me navigate my college search. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support of my amazing family, coaches, and friends. Go Penguins!! ❤️🤍🐧”

Collins wrapped up her high school swimming career at the Iowa Girls High School State Swimming and Diving Championships last November. She placed 11th in the 200 IM (2:10.48) and 22nd in the 100 breast (1:08.18). As a junior, she swam the 200 IM (14th place) and the 100 back (9th).
In club swimming, she represents Council Bluffs Swim Club and swims a little bit of everything. She had a strong showing at Midwestern Swimming LSC’s Short Course Championships in March, finaling in the 50 breast (4th), 100 breast (7th), 200 breast (6th), 50 fly (8th), and 200 IM (10th) and finishing the meet with PBs in the 50/200 breast. She kicked off 2024 long course season with new times in the 50/100/200 breast (36.7/1:17/2:52) and 100 fly (1:12).
Collins will join the Penguins next season with Amelia Matzke, Avery Kleich, Brynn Kleich, Lulu Wolff, Morgan Glass, and Olivia Sweetman.
