USC Men Take to the Road, Down Cal Poly

The USC Trojans men’s team contested the first of its two road meets this weekend, beating Cal Poly on Friday in San Luis Obispo, 152 to 125.

USC began with a victory in the 400 medley relay as Ralf Tribuntsov (49.12), Morten Klarskov (55.95), Maclin Davis (49.02), and Santo Condorelli (44.03) combined for 3:18.12. Cal Poly’s Mickey Mackle (52.40), Jimmy Deiparine (56.73), Justin Dedianous (51.74), and Caleb Davies (46.68) went 3:27.55 for second.

USC freshman Pawel Furtek got his Trojan career off to a nice start with a pair of wins in the 1000 (9:15.00) and 500 free (4:32.53). USC’s Reed Malone (9:34.15) took second in the 1000, ahead of a pair of Mustang freshmen: Pearu-Peeter Pold (9:38.28) and Peyton Leeson (9:40.45). In the 500, it was USC’s Ted Singley (4:36.42) and Dylan Carter (4:37.51) at second and third.

USC seniors Chad Bobrosky (1:41.80) and Cary Wright (1:41.99) went 1-2 in the 200 free. Cal Poly freshman Nolan Newland was third with 1:43.27. The Trojans went 1-2 again in the 100 back, as freshmen Ralf Tribuntsov (49.49) and Jon Knox (51.75) both touched ahead of Cal Poly senior Paolo Stanchi (52.30).

The Mustangs won the 100 breast when senior Deiparine (56.24) beat USC’s Klarskov (56.99) and Andrew Malone (57.66). USC came back in the 200 fly with a Michael Domagala victory in 1:52.02. A trio of Mustangs followed: Mackle (1:55.57), Shannon Fong (1:55.60), and Dedianous (1:56.76).

USC’s Condorelli won his lone individual event with a 20.48 in the 50 free. Teammate and fellow sophomore David Morgan (21.10) was second; Cal Poly’s Davies (21.63), third. In the 100 free it was Reed Malone in 46.29, followed by Jack Jenner (47.30) of Cal Poly, who came in just ahead of USC’s Davis (47.52).

Wright and fellow USC senior Luca Spinazzola went 1-2 in the 200 back with 1:49.37 and 1:51.99, respectively. Cal Poly’s Stachi (1:53.36) was third. USC swept the top three spots in the 200 breast as Steven Stumph (2:04.75) was followed by Ridge Altman (2:05.18) and Jonah Hu (2:05.55).

Cal Poly went 1-2 in the 200 IM, led by Mackle’s 1:54.21. Stanchi went 1:54.30. USC’s Domagala swam a 1:52.18 in exhibition.

Cal Poly’s 200 free relay team of Davies (21.77), Jenner (21.82), John Hornacek (21.48), and Dedianous (21.71) combined for a winning 1:26.78, while USC’s exhibition relay of Condorelli (20.51), Morgan (20.44), Carter (19.93), and Davis (20.79) went 1:21.76.
