(Florida, July 28, 2023) USA Down Syndrome Swimming (USADSS) is seeking national coaches for both the competitive and artistic swim teams. This is an exciting opportunity to coach and travel with a team of elite athletes with Down syndrome to represent the United States at the World Down Syndrome Swimming Championship in Antalya, Turkey in March 2024. The USADSS team finished in fourth place overall in the last World Down Syndrome Games in Albufeira, Portugal in October 2022, and many of our athletes hold world records.
USADSS is searching for experienced professionals with a background in coaching athletes with developmental disabilities, to fill positions as head coach for competitive and head coach for artistic swimming. We are also seeking assistant coaches for both teams. These are volunteer positions, but all travel expenses will be covered.
Coaches are required to attend and help lead the following events.
- National Competitive Training Camp: October 18-21 at the Rosen Aquatic Center, Orlando, FL
- National Artistic Training Camp: October 20-21 at the Rosen Aquatic Center, Orlando, FL
- Trisome Games (includes World Down Syndrome Swimming Championship) in Antalya, Turkey March 19-26, 2024.

Minimum Requirements for Competitive Swimming Head Coach Position
Be a registered coach on USA Swimming’s website and have ALL current USA Swimming Coaching requirements; please attach copy of e-card.
- Have experience training and preparing athletes who have a developmental disability.
- Have 5 years of head coaching experience at a USA Swimming Club, US Masters Club, YMCA, high school, or collegiate team.
- Have experience preparing, coaching, and entering large travel teams in events.
- Agree to sign all USADSS waivers, medical and release forms.
- Be interviewed by the USADSS Selection Committee.
- Be a legal resident of United States.
- Preference will be given to applicants with International (team) coaching experience and additional certifications from national governing bodies or organizations.
Minimum Requirements for Competitive Swimming Assistant Coach Position
- Be a registered coach on USA Swimming’s website and have ALL current USA Swimming Coaching requirements; please attach copy of e-card.
- Have experience training and preparing athletes who have a developmental disability.
- Have 3 years of head coaching experience at a USA Swimming Club, US Masters Club, high school, or collegiate team.
- Have experience preparing, coaching, and entering large travel teams in events.
- Agree to sign all USADSS waivers, medical and release forms.
- Be interviewed by the USADSS Selection Committee.
- Be a legal resident of the United States.
- Preference will be given to applicants with International (team) coaching experience and additional certifications from national governing bodies or organizations.
Minimum Requirements for Artistic Swimming Head and Assistant Coach Positions
- Be a registered USA Artistic Swimming Coach, have at least CCP 3, SafeSport, background check clear, and fees up to date.
- Have experience training and preparing athletes who have a developmental disability.
- Have 5 years of coaching experience with athletes with developmental disabilities.
- Have experience preparing, coaching, and entering large travel teams in events.
- Must be able to manage 8-10 Athletes with Disabilities (AWD) at once during training, competition, and travel.
- Agree to sign all USADSS waivers, medical and release forms.
- Be interviewed by the USADSS Selection Committee.
- Be a legal resident of the United States.
- Preference will be given to applicants with International (team) coaching experience and additional certifications from national governing bodies or organizations.
