American superstar and Olympic gold medalist Nathan Adrian was listed among the international athletes expected to compete at the 2016 Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials in Canada next weekend. After the release of those psych sheets, however, Adrian tells SwimSwam that he has changed his mind and doesn’t plan to swim at the Canadian Trials afterall.
Instead, Adrian will wait another week and race at the Arena Pro Swim Series meet in Mesa, Arizona.
Adrian is currently the leading swimmer in the Pro Swim Series standings with 30 points – putting him 4 ahead of Michael Phelps, 6 ahead of Conor Dwyer, and 7 ahead of Chase Kalisz.
The top placing eligible male and female athlete in that series will receive a one-year lease on a new BMW plus a $10,000 bonus.
The meet still boasts a laundry list of U.S. Olympians, including Natalie Coughlin, Connor Jaeger, and Elizabeth Beisel, in addition to the domestic swimmers fighting for spots on the Canadian Olympic Team.
Go Adrian . I feel he is in the best shape since 2012 . He is gonna be seriously hard to beat this summer .
That Mesa meet is so well run. Paul Smith and MAC know how to put on a show. Much easier travel for Adrian too.
Is Mesa the last one of the Pro Series? Im guessing if Adrian does well there, that he gets the rewards? I’d want that bmw and the cash bonus.
calswimfan – there’s still two and a half stops left after Mesa. There’s Charlotte in May, and then the simultaneous Santa Clara and Indianapolis stops in June.
