The University of Toronto men’s and women’s teams are looking like they’ll be repeat winners at this year’s Fairweather Division Championships after an impressive start to the season.

The Varsity Blues began their season taking down both the University of Guelph and Waterloo at a tri-meet, before heading out West to compete against some of their toughest competitors in U Sports. The Blues defeated Calgary in a dual meet, but ultimately lost to UBC at the Rocky Mountain Cup, finishing second on both the men’s and women’s sides.

2016 Olympic Bronze medallist Kylie Masse has been somewhat unstoppable for the Blues this season. She holds the top ranked time in six events, including all the backstroke events and the 200m IM. Masse demonstrated last year she was one of the top competitors in the CIS before taking her talents to the Olympics where she finished third in the 100m backstroke.

While Masse stands out among all competitors in U Sports, she’s not the only top ranked swimmer from the Blues. University of Toronto swimmers hold almost all top rankings in the OUA division with the exception of the men’s 1500m freestyle and the women’s 400m IM.

On the men’s side Eli Wall is dominating the breaststroke events whereas freshman Scott McGillivray is leading the hunt in the 100m and 200m freestyles with fast in-season times of 49.28 and 1:49.32 respectively.

The Blues will be facing off against Guelph, Western, McMaster, and Ottawa November 27th at the Fairweather Division Championships. McMaster will get the chance to race UofT this coming Friday in a  dual meet prior to the start of the divisional championships. Queens, Laurier, and York will be facing UofT on November 19th.

MAJOR UPCOMING MEETS

  • OUA Championships – February 10th
  • U Sports Championships – February 25th

Well the purpose of the article seems to be to outline U of T’s schedule until Fairweather Champs, and the author had included their Dual Meet with McMaster on November 11th. A Quad Meet the weekend before Fairweather is pretty significant and worthy of mention! It seems the author has added it in though, so no worries!
