LA JOLLA, Calif. – Freshman Annika Arroyo of the UC San Diego women’s water polo team was named Big West Player of the Week as announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon. This is the first career weekly honor for Arroyo and second time this season a Triton Athlete has earned the recognition. Previously, Bennett Bugelli earned Big West Weekly Honors.
Arroyo led the Tritons to an upset 10-9 victory over No. 7 Hawaii. Her three goals helped the Tritons start off Big West Conference play with a win and gave them their first victory over Hawai’i since 2014. In the non-conference loss, Arroyo had a career high four goals and added two steals.
The Tritons will host San Diego State in the Harper Cup on March 21. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. and will air on BigWestTV.
