BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The UC Davis swim and dive team took care of business on Saturday at the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunner Invite on Saturday, topping the field once again. The Aggies finished the meet with a score of 804, outpacing the Roadrunners’ 368 and the Mustangs’ total of 263.

“Our team did a great job opening the season on the road against two conference opponents,” UC Davis head swim coach Matt Macedo said of his team’s efforts this weekend. “The Sprint Classic and Roadrunner Invite provided an opportunity to get a lot of different events in. We tried to focus on the little things like starts, turns, race plans and bringing a good amount of energy for our teammates. It was nice to have our divers with us this year and it was exciting to see so many first years step up, securing wins and big relay splits. We look forward to building on our momentum next weekend.”

Naomi Boegholm, a freshman from Wellesley, Mass., was outstanding for the second straight day, this time finishing first in all four of her events. Boegholm won the 50 free (24.33), the 100 free (52.50), tied for the top spot in the 200 free with Elsie Luisetti (1:54.64) and won with the 400 free relay squad (3:30.07).

14 different Aggies finished in the top three across the meet’s 10 events, including 8 different Aggies coming in first.

Leila Busch followed up her 1-meter diving victory on Friday with a 3-meter dive win today. Busch scored a 284.75, just ahead of fellow Aggies Mackenzie Young (272.50) and Taylor Schwarz (253.75).

UC Davis swim and dive is back in competition next weekend when Cal State East Bay and the University of Nevada, Reno come to Schaal Aquatics Center on Saturday, Oct. 21 for a tri-meet. The meet, scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m., is the Aggies’ only home meet this fall.
