15-year-old Tyler Tannenberger dropped a blistering swim in the men’s 100 breaststroke at the 2021 Gulf Southern Sr. Champs Invite in Shenandoah, Tex., over the weekend, registering a time of 55.44.

Tannenberger, who swims for Swim Streamline at Northampton, improves upon his previous best of 55.69, set in November, and is now the fourth-fastest 15-year-old in the U.S. this season. He also ranks 35th all-time among 15-year-olds while narrowly missing cracking the top 100 in the 15-16 age group.

The other top performance from the meet came from fellow 15-year-old Eddie Jin, who dropped more than two seconds in the men’s 200 backstroke in a time of 1:48.43. Jin, who swims for Blue Tide Aquatics, entered the meet with a best of 1:53.16, and had brought that down to 1:50.86 in the prelims.

Jin also had one of the top-ranked swims on the lead-off leg of Blue Tide’s 200 medley relay, clocking 23.57 in the 50 back to lower his previous PB of 23.65 set in November.

Katy Aquatics teammates Joel Nace and Logan Pack also put up some elite swims at the meet, including Nace winning the men’s 200 fly in 1:48.41 to move into 39th all-time among 15-year-olds.

Nace also clocked 49.79 in the 100 fly prelims, lowering his previous best of 50.38, but Pack, 17, edged him out in the final, 49.70 to 50.14. Pack also brought his 100 back best time down from 50.62 to 49.01 in the heats, ultimately winning the final in 49.08.

On the women’s side, Katy Aquatics’ Marley Barnard had the top performance power-points wise in the 100 breaststroke, clocking 1:02.87 to take third overall while becoming the fifth-fastest 14-year-old in the country this season.
