Two more national records, host of junior records fall at Russian Championships

  3 Jared Anderson | November 20th, 2013

Two more Russian national records fell in the final few days of swimming in Kazan. Oleg Kostin got in on the action, breaking the national record in the 200 breaststroke (SCM) with a time of 2:02.38. One day later, Svetlana Chimrova took down her second national record, going 57.35 to win the 100 fly.

A whole host of Russian junior national records were shattered in Kazan. By meet’s end, Rosalia Nasretdinova had broken 3 of them (50 fly, 50 free, 100 free) and Daria Ustinova had shattered all three backstroking distances (50, 100, and 200 back). On the men’s side, Semen Makovich broke three records, taking the 100, 200 and 400 IMs.

The meet also served as a selection meet for the European Championships in December. Since many of these athletes made the Russian national team, more records are likely to fall in the near future.
