Thomas Ceccon Fires Off World-Leading 48.17 100 Freestyle In Australia

2025 NATIONAL PREP MEET (AUS)

The 2025 National Prep Meet in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia concluded today with age groupers and elite athletes alike taking to the pool. The competition offered a tune-up opportunity on the road to the all-important World Trials on the agenda for June.

This meet was in a rapid-fire racing format with timed finals in two sessions, one at 8am local and one at 2:25pm local.

On the heels of his impressive 52.84 time in the 100m back yesterday, 24-year-old Thomas Ceccon of Italy cranked out another head-turning effort in the 100m free.

Ceccon stopped the clock at a speedy in-season time of 48.17 to beat the pack, putting up the 7th-swiftest performance of his career in the process.

The Olympic champion and world record holder opened in 23.06 and closed in 25.11 to get to the wall over half a second ahead of 19-year-old Flynn Southam.

Bond’s Southam was also sub-49-seconds, notching 48.77 as the silver medalist. St. Peters Western standout Jamie Jack rounded out the podium in 50.14.

Ceccon now usurps Jack to wear the season’s world rankings crown, with Jack’s season-best of 48.27 from December’s Queensland Championships rendering him #2.

The women’s 100m free saw a trio of Bond swimmers claim the top 3 spots, led by 18-year-old Milla Jansen.

After claiming victories in the 50, 200m and 400m freestyle events on day one, Jansen put up a time of 54.19 to secure another gold.

Jansen split 25.98/28.21 en route to produce a time within the top 10 performances of her young career. Her personal best remains at the 53.81 registered for silver at last year’s Junior Pan Pacific Championships.

Next to the wall today was Hannah Casey who turned in a time of 56.37 followed quickly by Ainsley Trotter‘s result of 56.45.

Additional notable results included 20-year-old Jesse Coleman reaping gold in both the 100m and 50m fly sprints, notching times of 52.39 and 24.14, respectively.

Josephine Crimmins of Sommerville House Aquatics scored the sole time of the women’s 100m fly field under the 1:00 barrier, touching in 59.70 for the win.
