SwimSwam Pulse is a recurring feature tracking and analyzing the results of our periodic A3 Performance Polls. You can cast your vote in our newest poll on the SwimSwam homepage, about halfway down the page on the right side, or you can find the poll embedded at the bottom of this post.
Our most recent poll asked SwimSwam readers their opinions on the sale of alcohol at senior level swim meets:
RESULTS
Question: Do you support the sale of alcohol to spectators at senior level swim meets?
- Yes – 45.8%
- No – 54.2%
Voters were very split on their opinions of alcohol sales at senior-level swim meets, with 54% opposing and about 46% in favor.
USA Swimming put together a task force in the fall of 2017 to review organizational rules on alcohol sales. That task force presented its findings and its guidelines to USA Swimming’s Board of Directors in February. Though USA Swimming officials say the task force’s report didn’t constitute a decision to change existing organizational policy on alcohol sales, the publication of the Board meeting’s minutes did set off a wide-ranging discussion from fans on the place of alcohol sales at swim meets – and perhaps on a broader scale, the sport’s tricky balance between catering to spectators and providing the best environment for athletes.
