The 2015 Pacific Games are set to take place July 4-18, 2015 in the host city of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The multi-sport event, held every four years, sees exclusive participation from countries located within the South Pacific, such as Fiji, Samoa and Solomon Islands. Approximately 3,000 athletes across 21 nations in total will be descending upon PNG for this year’s edition of the competition.
Although sports of all sorts will be contested, it is the discipline of swimming that has seen its Pacific Games session tickets already sold out. Three-time Papua New Guinea Olympian Ryan Pini will be competing in front of his home crowd at the Taurama Aquatic Center, with the competitive swimming events scheduled to take place July 6-11th. The 33-year old Pini, who was PNG’s flag bearer at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, will be attempting a haul of 12 gold medals, with seven individual events and five relay events on his agenda.
Rosters for countries’ swimming squads are starting to roll out now that the July dates are in sight. Below is the line-up for Team Fiji, who walked away from the 2011 Pacific Games with a total of 18 swimming medals led by Paul Elaisa, Matelita Buadromo and Teiri Erasito. All three will be competing at the Pacific Games this July.
