Swim Coaches Base Podcast Open Vault – Day 5

The Swim Coaches Base Podcast, powered by RITTER, is quickly approaching 300 episodes. But many of the episodes from years’ past aren’t available prior to ones released this past year.

Each day, for the remaining days of 2019, RITTER Sports Performance will be releasing episodes from the vault. These will only be available until the end of the year and will be found exclusively on Apple Podcasts.

There are many great coaches that you may not have even realized were previously on the Swim Coaches Base Podcast.

Here’s are just some of the guests that are now available:

  • Mel Stewart Jr. aka Gold Medal Mel Stewart, won three Olympic medals at the 1992 Olympic Games. Mel’s best event was the 200 butterfly. He is a former World, American, and NCAA Record holder in the 200 butterfly. As a writer/producer and sports columnist, Mel has contributed to Yahoo Sports, Universal Sports, and USA Swimming. Mel has also worked as an Olympic analyst for ABC, NBC, EPSN, FOX SPORTS and TBS. Stewart is the co-founder and publisher of the swimming news website, SwimSwam.com, and a producer-director of commercials through his company, Gold Medal Media, LLC. In addition, he is currently an ambassador to the USA Swimming Foundation.
  • Todd DeSorbo was hired as the head men’s and women’s swimming and diving coach in August 2017. In his first season with the Cavaliers, the women’s team reclaimed the ACC title, while the men’s program finished third at the conference championships. The program set a combined 13 school records with the men setting seven and the women six during the season. At the NCAA Championships, the Cavalier women placed ninth earning All-American honors in 14 events as the men finished 29th after earning All-America honors in seven events.
  • Nate Brookreson is the Director of Strength & Conditioning for Olympic Sports at NC State. His primary training duties are with women’s basketball, swimming and diving and men and women’s golf, while supervising the implementation of training for over 500 student-athletes. Prior to NC State, Brookreson was the Director of Athletic Performance for Olympic Sports at the University of Memphis from August 2013 until June 2015. While at Memphis, Brookreson worked primarily with men and women’s soccer, men and women’s golf and track & field sprinters while supervising training for the Olympic sports department. A native of Lacey, Washington, Brookreson earned his Bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University and Master’s degree from Eastern Washington University in exercise science. He is certified (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and (SCCC) the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.
  • Michael Brooks is the former Head Coach of King Aquatics, the North Carolina Aquatic Club and the York YMCA. Previously, at the York YMCA swimming team in York, Pa., since October 2006. In that time, in addition to scoring at the major domestic meets, York Y swimmers have represented the USA internationally at meets ranging from Junior Worlds, Youth Olympics, Junior Pan Pacifics, Pan American Games and various World Cup meets. Four of his swimmers have been named to U.S. Swimming’s National Junior Team and two to the U.S. National Team.
  • Peter Linn was formerly the head coach of the Eastern Michigan University men’s swimming team. He took over as head coach of the women’s program in 2004. In his 27 seasons as men’s head coach, Linn has guided the Eagles to 22 Mid-American Conference Championships, including eight in a row from 1988-1996. For the women, since he took over for the 2004-2005 season, he has led the Eagles to a 60-31 mark in nine seasons.
  • Carol Capitani took over as head coach of the Texas women’s swimming and diving program in June 2012 and is now beginning her fourth season with the Longhorns. She has served on several national team staffs and spent her collegiate swimming career at the University of California, where she accumulated eight All-America honors in the individual medley and breaststroke events.
  • Bill Pilczuk is the Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Swimming Team at Savannah College of Art and Design. Bill was a world class swimming as well winning gold medals in the 50-meter freestyle at the 1995 Pan American Games, and again at the 1997 and 1999 Pan Pacific Championships. He won the world title in his signature 50-meter freestyle event at the 1998 World Championships, with a time of 22.29 seconds. In the process, he defeated Russia’s Alexander Popov in what USA Today called the “Upset of the Decade.”
  • Eddie Reese has been the head coach of the Texas Longhorns men’s swimming and diving team since 1978. This past season he won a record 12th team title in swimming as a coach, the most all-time. He’s also been on the USA Olympic Coaching Staff six times, twice as the head coach.
