After a one-week delay because of a snowstorm, it was business as usual for St. John’s Prep at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Boys’ Division I State Championships on Sunday, earning a dominant victory.

St. John’s Prep won its 17th title in 19 years after more than doubling up the runner-up team, Westford Academy, with 330 points.

The victory came thanks to superior depth, as St. John’s only had one event victory on the day, coming in the 400 free relay.

To close out the meet, the quartet of Brendan Titley (47.51), Porter Mulgrew (49.08), Matthew Church (48.95) and Wes Ross (47.21) finished in a time of 3:12.75, giving St. John’s a big victory over Newton North High School (3:17.62).

Titley and Mulgrew led the team in individual points with 33 apiece, as Titley placed 2nd in the 100 free (47.44) and 3rd in the 200 free (1:42.24) and Mulgrew was the runner-up in the 500 free (4:35.05) and 3rd in the 200 IM (1:56.64).

Two swimmers swept their individual events: Newton North senior Quinn Caputo and Xaverian Brothers senior Will Mulgrew.

Caputo, a Cornell commit, swept the 100 back (50.92) and 200 back (1:51.30), with his personal bests sitting at 49.87 and 1:47.58, respectively.

Caputo also anchored Newton North’s winning 200 free relay, closing in 20.83 to run down St. John’s Prep’s Ross and win the event by one one-hundredth of a second, 1:28.91 to 1:28.92.

Mulgrew, a Harvard commit, won the 200 free (1:41.19) and 500 free (4:31.57), with his best times sitting at 1:38.67 and 4:19.78, respectively.
