ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women’s swimming and diving team and head coach Skip Nitardy as well as head diving coach Stephanie Fleming have announced the addition of eight student-athletes to the roster for the 2020-21 season.
Meghan Corby, Maggie Metcalf, Paige Kasemsuwannakaeth, Amy O’Rourke, Madelyn Green, Madeline Thorne, Kylie McKee and Silvana Cabrera have all announced their intent to attend St. Bonaventure beginning in the fall of 2020.
“We are thrilled with the talent we will be bringing to our women’s team with this recruiting class,” St. Bonaventure coaches said. “We fully believe that we snagged eight very talented ladies with a ton of potential. On their visits, our team immediately identified them each as athletes that would fit into our tight knit group. Each and every one of these girls are committed to helping grow and excel our women’s team. Beyond their athletic talent, they all mesh well with the positive team culture our ladies have established. We are very much looking forward to seeing what their personalities and talents will add to our St. Bonaventure Swimming & Diving family.”
Joining the Bonnies from Pittsford, N.Y. is Meghan Corby. She competed for Pittsford Sutherland High School in the 100, 200 and 500-freestyle events. Corby was a member of the 2018 State Champion 400-freestyle relay team. Academically, Corby is a consistent member of the honor roll and plans to major in business at St. Bonaventure. Corby comes from a swimming family as her mother swam at Syracuse and her sister is currently a member of the UConn swim team.
Maggie Metcalf comes to St. Bonaventure from West Linn, Ore., where she competed in butterfly, backstroke and freestyle events for West Linn High School. Academically, she is an AP Scholar with distinction and also a National Merit commended scholar. Metcalf plans to major in criminology at St. Bonaventure.
Paige Kasemsuwannakaeth joins the Brown and White from Springfield, Va. She swam in freestyle and backstroke events for West Springfield High School. Kasemsuwannakaeth earned a role as team captain during her senior year and was a member of three school relay record teams. Her parents are originally from Thailand and she is a four-time finalist at the Thailand Championships, winning a silver medal in the 50-backstroke. Kasemsuwannakaeth intends to major in criminology upon arrival at St. Bonaventure.
Coming to St. Bonaventure is Amy O’Rourke from Roodeport, South Africa. O’Rourke competed in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events for St. Catherine’s Convent. She served as team captain of her club swim team for three years while qualifying for Senior Nationals three times. O’Rourke was awarded the Van Zyl trophy for most records broken at St. Catherine’s. She was also a three-time Swimmer of the Year in high school. At St. Bonaventure, O’Rourke plans on majoring in sports studies.
Madelyn Green swam in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events for The Hill School in Gilbertsville, Pa. She finished in the top-20 in the 50-freestyle and 100-backstroke at the 2018 Eastern Interscholastic Championships and also qualified for the championships in the 50-freestyle in 2019. Green is a member of the school record-holding 200-freestyle relay team. Green intends to major in biochemistry at St. Bonaventure.
Joining the Bonnies from Cicero, N.Y. is Madeline Thorne. She was a diver for Cicero-North Syracuse High School and claimed the Section III Class A Diving Championship in 2019. Thorne was also the winner of the 2019 Burgos Memorial Diving Invitational. Academically, Thorne was the Clarkson Leadership Award recipient, winner of the Pre-Calculus Honors Award and had the highest academic average in 2017. Thorne’s sister, Lauren, swims for Little Three rival Canisius. At St. Bonaventure, she plans to major in mathematics.
Kylie McKee comes to St. Bonaventure after diving for Oneonta High School in central New York. McKee was a 2018 Section IV All-Star selection, team captain as a junior and a senior while holding two school diving records. Academically, McKee is a member of the National Honors Society and was the recipient of the Seal of Biliteracy. She intends to major in health sciences at St. Bonaventure.
Silvana Cabrera joins the Brown and White from Lima, Peru. She swam in butterfly events for Colegio Maria Alvarado. Cabrera has competed in South American competition, winning a silver medal at the Pan-American Games. She plans to major in environmental studies up arrival at St. Bonaventure.
