The St. Bonaventure Men’s Swimming and Diving teamrecorded its first home victory of the season this afternoon. The Brown and White pulled off a 129-112 win over Little Three Rival Canisius, to send the seniors off on a high note.
St. Bonaventure swept the 200-yard freestyle. Coming in at 1:43.09, Jimmy Martin took the gold. Followed by his teammate, Alex Szakelyhidi who came in at 1:47.55, to clinch the silver. Mike Hartwell finished with a time of 1:48.30 to win the bronze.
Gregg Byrne had a successful meet with a second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:00.12 and a third place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Alex Szakelyhidi won the bronze in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:57.64.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, The Bonnies came up triumphant with a time of 1:23.85. Danner and Michael Pilyugin both had first place wins on the day. Danner came in at 1:57.57 in the 200-yard IM while Pilyugin had a solid finish in the 200-yard Backstroke with a time of 1:53.91.
The Brown and White had two sets on first and second place finishes on the day. Rochna (1:55.14) and John Mackiewicz (1:59.67) finished one-two in the 200-yard butterfly. Shchukin finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.11. Followed closely by Paccapaniccia who finished with a time of 21.76.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Martin finished with a time of 46.75, which was good for a gold medal. Burud took bronze in the event with a time of 48:87. During the 200-yard breaststroke Schilling and Schutt finished second and third. Schilling touched at 2:13.57 while Schutt came in at 2:14:22
The Bonnies will be back in the pool when they travel to compete in the Pittsburgh Invite on Nov. 22nd, 23rd and 24th.
WOMEN
The St. Bonaventure women’s swimming and diving team earned its first victory on the season on Saturday at the Reilly center against little three rival Canisius. The Bonnies have continuously improved on the season and the final result showed at the end of the meet, defeating Canisius by a score of 149 to 94.
The Brown and White proved to be the dominant team today, placing in the top three in all thirteen events. The first top finish came for the Bonnies in the 1000 yard freestyle when sophomore Shannon Haberman placed first, touching in with a time of 10:42.14. Teammate Aly Paz would place third in the event, registering a time of 11:00.11. Haberman would end the day with a second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle, recording a time of 5:12.37. Freshman Tanja Kirmse started out the day strong, placing first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:55.46, while Junior Rachel Bull would secure second place finish in the same event, recording a time of 1:57.92.Kirmse would grab another first place finish later in the afternoon in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 53.48. Freshman teammate Bridget Jordan contributed a third place finish in the event with a time of 55.79.
Seniors Jeanette Dietrich and McKenzie Courtney both grabbed second place finishes to cap of their senior day. Dietrich secured a second place finish early in the afternoon in the 50 yard freestyle, recording a time of 25.01, just behind Canisius’ Hannah Graesser. McKenzie Courtney grabbed a second place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of2:30.16, with teammate Laura O’Beirne coming in third with a time of 2:31.66.
Coming off a strong performance against Cleveland State, Junior Lauren Caldwell continued her impressive performance today against Canisius. She began the day with a first place finish in the 200 yard IM, registering a time of 2:11.71, four seconds ahead of Canisius’ Clare Battaglia. In the 200 yard butterfly, Caldwell would secure a second place finish with a time of 2:09.73, just behind teammate Elizabeth Malone who touched in at 2:09.14.
Sophomore Adelyn Graf would also contribute multiple top finishes on the day, beginning in the 200 yard IM. Graf would place third in the even t, recording a time of 2:15.88. Graf would conclude the day with a first place finish in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.41, just ahead of teammate Alexa Scanlan who touched in at 2:13.47.
Freshman Diver Meghan Bartlett placed first in both the 1 meter dive and the 3 meter dive. In the 1 meter, she recorded a score of 236.33 and in the 3 meter dive she recorded a score of 231.08.
The Bonnies relay team continued to build on a successful season with four top finishes in relay events. Their first victory came in the 200 yard medley relay with the team of Adelyn Graf, Elizabeth Malone, McKenzie Courtney, and Jeanette Dietrich touching in at 1:51.80. Teammates Meaghan McCann, Bridget Jordan, Katie Winterburn, and Taylor Andersonwould place third in the event with a time of 1:53.56.
In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Tanja Kirmse, Taylor Anderson, Jeanette Dietrich, and Rachel Bull placed second, recording a time of 1:39.41. The Bonnies would also grab third place in the same event with the team of Bridget Jordan, Meaghan McCann, Emily Quinn, and Maggie Woods registering a time of 1:44.06.
The Bonnies return to action December 6th when they travel to Akron, Ohio for the Akron Invite.
