Global swimwear brand Speedo has announced a two-year Official Partnership with the German Swimming Federation (DSV), to provide technical and training products to senior and junior teams across its aquatic disciplines.
The new deal will now offer German swimming athletes the opportunity to compete in Speedo swimwear and equipment at international events, including the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, creating exciting new possibilities for athletes to stand out on the blocks. The Official Partnership spans across the DSV’s five aquatic disciplines; Swimming, Diving, Open Water, Water Polo and Synchronised Swimming.
With a decorated 95 year history, Speedo has always been known for benchmarking success in the pool. In 2000, Speedo launched its revolutionary Fastskin Swimsuit which saw 13 of the 15 World Records broken in the suit and 83% of medals won by swimmers at the Sydney Games that year. In 2019, Speedo released the next generation of the Fastskin family, the LZR Pure Intent and LZR Valor swimsuits. Since then, 52% of all individual word records have been broken in either Fastskin Pure Intent or Valor, cementing Speedo’s dominance in the pool. Speedo Fastskin technology continued to thrive at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, with 61% of all gold medals and 49% of all medals at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics won in Speedo. Not only that, but females reigned supreme with 69% of all female medals won in Speedo.
Speaking of the partnership, Simon Rowe, Speedo VP Global Sports Marketing, said: “We’re thrilled to announce our partnership with DSV, a prominent player in the world of swimming. As a leader in the sport, Speedo has long-standing relationships with renowned federations like USA Swimming, the China Swimming Association, and British Swimming. With this latest addition to our portfolio, we’re proud to expand our global reach and continue supporting the growth of swimming worldwide.”
Christian Hansmann, DSV Sports Director, added: “DSV athletes can from now on use the innovative equipment from Speedo at international events. The partnership with Speedo is a great success for the German Swimming Association. Speedo has played a leading role in equipment technology for decades, and now our athletes can also benefit from this. We are proud to be able to offer our athletes a wide selection of the best equipment on the market and are looking forward to the joint cooperation.”
The new partnership follows Speedo’s relaunch of operations in Germany earlier this year, which has seen the brand distributing to German retailers directly and the opening of a sales office and showroom at the MOC in Munich.
Johannes Graff, Head of Sales at Speedo Germany, said: “We are looking forward to a very close and intensive cooperation with the German Swimming Association. A partnership that will significantly enrich the swimming sport in Germany and, above all, enable swimmers to swim to victories in the latest and best Speedo products. Especially in view of the Games next year, this partnership is an important and promising step forward.”
