CARBONDALE, Ill. — The Southern Illinois Salukis battled the Sycamores of Indiana State inside Shea Natatorium Saturday afternoon. The Dawgs pulled out a 185-115 performance that included NCAA “B” cut performances by freshman Celia Pulido.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS
On the diving board, freshman Farida Moussa and senior Laura Mircea outshined the rest with first place titles on the one- (243.60) and three-meter (240.15) boards.
Senior Eden Girloanta came back in the distant 1000-freestyle event. The Israeli native clocked in at 10:19.76.
The relay squads pulled out first place performances in the 200-medley and 400-free to start and end the afternoon in Carbondale.
Mexico native Fernanda Sanchez, pulled out another two-first place title afternoon in the pool. Sanchez outswam in the 500-free (5:00.26) and 400-IM (4:27.38).

CARBONDALE, Ill. – Indiana State was unable to keep pace with host Southern Illinois in a key Missouri Valley Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon as the Sycamores fell to the Salukis, 185-115.
In a matchup featuring two of the top three teams in the conference this season, the Sycamores were paced by a trio of wins in the freestyle events, while Indiana State added seven second-place results at the Shea Natatorium.
“Obviously you always want to get the win, but we had a lot of positives today,” head coach Josh Christensen said. “We held up really well on the second day of back-to-back away meets, which shows we’re prepared for four days of racing at the conference championships. In some races we had people come back and be faster than they were yesterday, which was nice to see.”
Emily Webb continued her winning ways on Saturday afternoon as the senior continued her winning streak in the 200-yard freestyle event. Webb has won four consecutive 200-yard events dating back to the ISU Tri-Meet against Bellarmine and Eastern Illinois on December 4. The Edwardsville, Ill. native topped the field by a full second in holding off SIU’s Fernanda Sanchez Gongora (1:52.42) as Webb touched the wall in 1:51.38.
Chloe Farro picked up a pair of wins in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events to highlight her weekend. The freshman has won three consecutive individual races after finishing second yesterday afternoon in the 50-yard free at the IUPUI Tri-Meet. Farro’s 24.21 in the 50-yard freestyle put her six-hundredths of a second ahead of SIU’s Abbey Desmet (24.27) for the win. Her 51.42 in the 100-yard event held off Webb (52.28) as the Sycamores completed the sprint sweep.
Webb (100 Free), Molly Fogarty (1000 Free), Madie Rutan (100 Back), Alexa Szadorski (100 Fly, 200 Fly), Olivia DiRuzza (200 Back), and Alexandria Cotter (400 IM) all added second-place results for the Sycamores as ISU continues to progress with an eye toward the MVC Championships.
Bailey Betzer topped the Sycamores with a second-place finish in the women’s 1M diving event as the sophomore bounced back from a tough outing on Friday with a 236.63. Sarah Montgomery added a third-place result in the women’s 3M diving with a score of 234.38.
“We’ve got one more meet to use for racing experience, and then fine-tuning and rest for the MVC Championships,” Christensen said. “We’re hoping to get some people healthy over the next couple of weeks and be full strength at that meet.”
