Seton Hall Women Edge Out Lehigh, Pirate Men Dominate

BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Seton Hall women’s swimming and diving team claimed victory in a tightly contested affair, defeating Lehigh 123-115.

Diving
Junior Amy Kugleman was the standout diver for the Pirates today against Lehigh. The Tappan, New York, native earned the silver medal on both boards today. Kugleman completed the 1-meter board with a score of 233.48 and the 3-meter board with a score of 239.40.

Swimming                                                                        
The Pirates’ individual program opened in typical Pirate fashion in the 1000 Freestyle. Senior Allie Waggoner continued her distance freestyle domination with a 10:15.16 in the 1000 Freestyle.  Later on in the meet, she would go on to claim victory in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:02.47 as well. Fellow pirate Mandy Zajdzinski would finish not far behind Waggoner in second place with a time of 5:06.62

In the 200 Freestyle, 2023 BIG EAST Champion Natalie Heim once again claimed overall victory in with a time of 1:52.90. It was Heim’s third win in the event this season. She would go on to also claim overall victory in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 52.03, three tenths ahead of teammate Lea Moeller.

While just falling short in the 100 Freestyle, the 50 Freestyle was a different story for Lea Moeller. She claimed overall victory over teammate Naima Hazell by 0.18 seconds with a time of 24.31.

The Pirates also claimed a string of second place finishes during the meet. Among them, Mia Sunseri narrowly missed overall victory with a time of 2:26.45 in the 200 Breaststroke by just over a quarter-of-a-second. Alongside Sunseri, Amaelia Obszarny finished second in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:08.48.

In the final relay of the meet, the Pirates claimed overall victory in the event to secure victory. Lea MoellerNaima Hazell, Mandy Zajdzinski and Natalie Heim combined for a time of 1:36.38.

What’s Next
The Pirates are back in the pool on Saturday back in South Orange, New Jersey, against Drexel. Diving is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., while swimming will begin at 2:30 p.m.

BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Seton Hall Men’s swimming and diving team claimed their second straight dual meet victory of the season, defeating Lehigh 152-90.

Diving
Freshman diver Nick Graham once again claimed victory in both the 1-meter board and 3-meter board with scores of 305.93 and 352.45, respectively.

Alongside Graham, Trevor Post had a strong day on the boards. Post placed second in the 1-meter board with a score of 311.78 points. Post’s most important dives of the day came on the 3-meter board, however. With a score of 323.78 points, he earned his Zones cut at that height.

Swimming
Distance swimmer Sean Vizzard continued his run of form from the Bucknell Fall Invite in the 1000 Freestyle, touching the wall in first with a time of 9:46.51. Vizzard would later go on to barely miss out on the overall win in the 500 Freestyle. He finish in second place with a time of 4:47.70, 0.37 seconds behind first place.

Junior Kevin Cary continued his strong season across all events against Lehigh. Cary claimed overall victory in the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.66, a full three seconds clear of second place. Alongside the 200 IM, Cary would go on to later claim the overall victory in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 46.23.

For the second straight meet, Toma Adam won the 50 Freestyle with the time of 21.08, over a second clear of second place.

The 200 Freestyle saw a first-time event winner for the Pirates this season. Freshman Jake Karulf claimed overall victory in the event with a time of 1:44.04. Karulf would later go on to claim his second victory of the day in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 1:55.65.

Alongside his fellow freshman, Balint Marosi claimed overall victory in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 1:51.54. Marosi’s time was nearly two seconds clear of second place in the event.
The last individual event winner of the day was Ben Endersby. The breaststroker claimed overall victory in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:10.43.

To cap off a dominant victory, the Pirates closed the meet with a victory in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The Pirates opened the meet with familiar success in the 200 Medley Relay. Chris JacksonKevin CaryMichael Klimaszewski and Toma Adam claimed victory to open the meet with a time 1:24.89.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men’s and women’s swimming and diving both suffered losses to Seton Hall Friday night in the home opener at Jacobs Pool. The women fell 123-115 to the Pirates and the men fell 152-90 to Seton Hall.

WOMEN’S RECAP
With the loss, the Mountain Hawks fell to 4-2 on the season. 

Lehigh recorded seven wins on Friday. The 200-yard medley relay team of Anushree GhateZoe DaviesClara Moschella and Caitlin Deitch
swam to a first-place finish with a time of 1:48.10. In addition to finishing first in the relays, Davies had an individual win on Friday, coming in first-place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.17).


Sophomore Eliza Meth rolled to a first-place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:11.61), with teammate Monica Wintermute taking home a third-place finish (2:14.98). Junior Natalie Martin won the 200-yard butterfly, finishing first with a time of 2:06.85. 

Junior Willa Werwaiss continued her win streak after finishing first in the 200-yard backstroke with 2:02.49. Teammates Lily Van Der Sman and Claire Coughlin had a three-four punch in the 200-yard backstroke as Van Der Sman finished third (2:11.99) and Coughlin finished in fourth with a time of 2:12.49. 

The Mountain Hawks also had a three-fourth punch in the 1000-yard freestyle with Maggie Mikalic taking third (10:53.11) and Caitlin Hofmann finishing in fourth (11:04.66). 

Lehigh swept the dives with senior Sarah Gill taking first place in the one-meter dive with 246.53 points and reigning Patriot League Diver of the Week Kate Whitaker won the three-meter dive with 240.98 points

MEN’S RECAP
The men are now 3-3 on the season. Lehigh totaled two wins on Saturday. 

Sophomore Owen Higinbotham recorded the first individual win of his career, coming in first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:47.33. Higinbotham also had a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:04.21) and teammates Alfredo Figueroa Sedano (10:06.70) and Samuel Stone (10:39.52) coming in third and fourth place, respectively. 

The 200-yard medley relay team of Ben KiskerJack DeVilbissAaron Williams and Tim Norris swam to a first-place finish, recording a time of 1:32.39. 

First-year Frankie Prekop had a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (47.24). First-year Tristan Ronayne also a second-place mark, finishing with a time of 1:53.39. 

Senior Connor Goodyear took home a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM (1:56.69). 

In the dives, senior Jack Grotke finished in fifth place in the one-meter dive with 163.88).

The Mountain Hawks return to action on Nov. 22 against Lafayette in The Rivalry at 6 p.m. in Easton, Pa.
