Seton Hall Men Open Second Half of Season With Big Win Over NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. – The Seton Hall men’s swimming and diving team opened the second half of its season with a 170-71 victory over NJIT. The meet saw the Pirates tune up for their next-to-last home meet of the season against Wagner and witnessed the return of a familiar face to the top of the diving podium after an absence.

Diving
It may be a different year, but it is still the same dominant performance from freshman diver Nick Graham. Graham once again earned overall victory in the 3-meter board with a score of 360.00, less than 15 points off current diving coach Ben Mitchell‘s school record. Graham also broke NJIT’s pool record in the process. Alongside Graham, Trevor Post also found his way to second place in the 3-meter board with a score of 310.35

The 1-meter board, however, saw the return of a familiar face to the top step of the podium for the first time this season. After missing the first half of the season, senior Quinn Murtha returned to the boards with a winning score of 316.43. Alongside Murtha, the Pirates locked out the podium in the event with Graham claiming second with a score of 298.43 and Post finishing third with a score of 293.40

Swimming
In the opening relay of 2025, the Pirates opened the year with a bang in the 200 Medley Relay. After being behind after the first 50, the team of Balint MarosiBen EndersbyMichael Klimaszewski and Toma Adam came back to touch the wall with a time of 1:32.79. That win would set the tone for the meet to come.

The individual program began in dominant fashion with Pirates winning the first seven events. Clil Halevi was contested early in the stages of the 1000 Freestyle, but cruised home to a comfortable win with a time of 9:37.60. In the 200 Freestyle, Kevin Cary produced a wire-to-wire win for the Pirates, touching the wall with a time of 1:39.29. Next, Evan Wilson, in his first dual meet of the season, cleanly won the 50 Freestyle with a time of 21.23, nearly two tenths quicker than his teammate Endersby. In the final event before the first diving break, Marosi would enter the pool for his first individual event and claim victory in a tightly contested 200 IM with a time of 1:53.35.

Out of the diving break, Klimaszewski showcased his championship-winning pedigree in the 100 Butterfly. The junior won the event by over a second-and-a-half, winning with a time of 49.85. Adam would then enter the pool for his first individual event of the day, and similar to Klimaszewski, also produced a dominant victory. The sophomore from Romania would win the 100 Freestyle by nearly a second, earning overall victory with a time of 46.45.  Marosi once again returned to the pool after his 200 IM win, this time for the 100 Backstroke. While it came down to the wall, the freshman claimed overall victory with a time of 50.44. There was one event left before the final diving break: the 500 Freestyle. Although Sean Vizzard fought his NJIT opposition tooth and nail, the Highlanders would claim their first victory of the meet and Vizzard came home second with a time of 4:39.24.

In the final individual event of the meet, the100 Breaststroke, Endersby secured narrow victory over teammate Shayne Simmons with a time of 58.42. 0.48 seconds better than Simmons. The Pirates would close out their dominant night in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Once again, in wire-to-wire fashion, the lineup of Klimaszewski, Adam, Jaden Bunt and Kevin Cary would touch the wall first with a time of 1:24.25.

What’s Next
The Pirates return to action on Friday, January 24, against Wagner. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

NEWARK, N.J. – The NJIT swimming and diving team (1-4) lost to Seton Hall (5-2), 170-71, on Friday at the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Event Center (BWEC).

Ilias El Fallaki won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:37.67. Adam Mekrami finished third with a 500 free time of 4:43.89.

Sam Deemer posted a 100 back time of 50.98 to finish second.

Pawel Drzymala placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 51.53.

NJIT will host Rider for a dual meet tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at the BWEC.
