Scottsdale Aquatic Club’s Luca Gissendaner Posts 53.5 100 Yard Breast

Scottsdale Aquatic Club hosted a one-day, short course yards, intrasquad meet on July 20th where rising high school senior Luca Gissendaner crushed his lifetime best 100 yard breast time by 1.8 seconds for a time of 53.50.

His previous best time was 55.37 from March.

Gissendaner’s second and final event of the one-day meet was the 50 free where he posted a 20.99 to win the event, within .11 of his lifetime best time from 2019.

 Daniel Matheson won the 200 free with a lifetime best time of 1:35.90, taking 1.27 seconds off his best time from November 2020.

He also took down his lifetime best 50 free time by .04,  placing 3rd in the event with a time of 21.11. He will join USC swimming in the fall as part of their class of ‘25.

The fastest time in the 200 breast came from 14-year-old Sam Lee (2:07.22) who took more than one second off his lifetime best time from March. He went on to place 5th in the 100 breast by breaking 1:00.00 for the first time (59.99).

Going into this meet, Lee’s lifetime best 100 breast time was 1:01.18 from March.

 Gracie Felnera rising sophomore at Alabama, won the 100 fly by coming within .9 of her lifetime best time from the 2021 SEC Championships, a 52.33. At the intrasquad, she touched the wall with a time of 53.20.

 William Bansberg won the 200 back with a time of 1:47.23, just .22 off his lifetime best time from December 2020. Ohio State commit Bansberg will start swimming for the Buckeyes in the fall.

14-year-old Peter Shih smashed more than 4 seconds off his best 400 IM time to win the event with a 4:05.25. His previous best time was from Sectionals in March 2021.

Another young standout of the meet was 15-year-old Joy Felner who won the 200 breast (2:16.18) and placed 2nd in the 100 breast (1:05.03). She took about 1.5 seconds off her lifetime best 200 breast time from the March Sectionals and.09 off her best 100 breast time also from March.

Rising high school junior Sydney Blackhurst won the 100 breast ahead of Felner (1:02.53), coming within one-third of a second of her lifetime best time from the March Sectionals.
