Rose Bowl Aquatics 12-year old Ronald Dalmacio has shattered the National Age Group Record in the 100 yard backstroke. Swimming at the Kevin Perry Invitational, Dalmacio (against a senior field that otherwise was 16-and-older), he placed 11th in 50.99.
The old record of 51.40 was set by New Jerseyan Vinny Marciano in 2014 – and coming into the weekend, Marciano’s swim was 6-tenths faster than anybody else had done.
Dalmacio holds 4 National Age Group Records in the 10 & under age group – 50 back, 100 back (58.62), 100 IM, and as part of Rose Bowl’s 200 yard medley relay. He also owns 4 records in long course – 50 back, 100 back, and 200 IM as a 10 & under, and earlier this year the 50 back as an 11-12, after which point he didn’t swim another short course race.
This, Dalmacio’s first swim of the event as a 12-year old, was a huge surge forward for him. His previous best of 54.70 came last March at NCSAs.
Comparative splits:
- Dalmacio ’16 – 25.04/25.95 = 50.99
- Marciano ’16 – 24.65/26.75 = 51.40
Dalmacio on Saturday also split 52.37 leadinf ogg Rose Bowl’s “B” 400 medley relay. On Sunday, he swam a lifetime best of 1:54.90 in the 200 backstroke prelims and is scheduled for a start in the 100 free as well.
That 200 back time ranks him 5th all-time in the 11-12 age group rankings behind the 1:53.36 done by Tyler Lu earlier this year.
I swam against him at WAGS last year in December. He’s too fast for us. hahahaha
Nice. Congrats to swimmer and coach!
I’m old enough to remember when 50.9 was an excellent time for an NCAA male swimmer. Sigh.
These kids mean business. Congrats.
Winter junior national cut to the hundredth for the young man! Congrats!
speaking of Marciano (and Lasco), I feel like I hear less about them these days
Lasco 56.84 100 back/2.03.28 200 back last summer
1.00.23/2.09.27 in 2015
He continues to drop a lot of time.
No worries about him.
Check the GPAC meet from this weekend. Lasco is moving up. He might throw down some wicked times come December and March.
Reece Whitley is also at that meet..
Yea, Lasco just went 48.0 in the 100 back. 21.1 50 free and 45.6 with a negative split in the 100 free this weekend in a November meet. He will be going fast come taper time
Lasco also had a great 1650 free with 15:46, 200IM (1:49), 100 Br (58.7), 100 Fly and finish with 1:45 in 200 Back…Splitting 53+ and coming back 51+…all in one session!
…but let’s stay focus on the new upcoming wave of backstokers… Exciting 4 years to come.
I am confused. How did you get my name for SwimSwam? I have had the name for a few years now.
He/she doesn’t have a space between the words, so it’s a different name. 🙂
Thats a funny happening
thanks
Marciano, Lasco, and now Dalmacio. USA will continue onto dominate backstroke for a while now
Wtf. I swear this kid was 10 years old with glasses and a 58 100 yard back just yesterday.
He just broke the 200 back NAG tonight by 3 hundredths
