NEWARK, NJ – The Rider University men’s swimming and diving team was dominant Saturday, defeating NJIT 195-105. The Broncs improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Highlanders even their record at 3-3.
The Broncs won 13 events on the day on their way to victory.
Rider opened the day winning the 200-medley relay. Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross), David Cooper (Spring, TX/Klein Oak), Jack Ruggieri (Bellmawr, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), and Joe Gewartowski (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) combined to stop the clock at 1:32.00.
Kyle Iorizzo (Norwood, NJ/Old Tappan Regional) earned the first individual Bronc victory of the day in the 1,000-free with a time of 9:44.33. Brayden Murphy (Victor, NY/Victor Senior) and Christian Overton completed the sweep with times of 10:06.72 and 10:13.36.
Lucas Racevicius continued the strong performance in the 200-free, with a winning time of 1:41.54. He would later win the 200-back in a time of 1:51.66.
David Rucci (Sewell, NJ/Gateway Regional) and Overton swam 51.32 and 51.37 in the 100-back for a one-two finish. Rucci later won the 200-IM with a time of 1:55.30.
Cooper and Alex Boeckx (Folsom, PA/Ridley) went one-two in the 100-breast, touching the wall at 57.01 and 57.97. Cooper also won the 200-breast in 2:06.47.
Ruggieri, Gewartowki, and Webster Bozzo (Christansted, U.S. Virgin Islands/Good Hope Country Day) swept the 50-free with times of 21.32, 21.40, and 21.49 respectively.
In the diving well, Sean Binning (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) and Marcas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross) took first and second in the 3-meter with scores of 287.85 and 257.15. Binning completed the sweep, taking the 1-meter with a score of 246.40.
David McSorley (West Deptford, NJ/GCIT) won the 100-free in 46.72.
McSorley, Lucas Racevicius, Boeckx, and Gewartowski swam 1:24.01 to win the 200-free relay to close out the day.

– Bobby Irwin (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) and Dimitri Maldonado (Middletown, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) were second and third in the 200-fly.
– Ruggieri was third in the 100-free and the 100-fly.
– Overton took third in the 200-back.
– Andrew Iannacone (Yardley, PA/Holy Ghost Prep) was third in the 200-breast.
– Iorizzo and Derek Fantano (Morris, CT/Holy Cross) took second and third in the 500-free.
– Marcas Racevicius claimed third in the 1-meter.

NEWARK, N.J. – The Stony Brook University women’s swimming and diving team added another victory to the team’s 2021-22 campaign on Saturday against Rider. The Seawolves earned eleven first-place finishes in route to the 166-103 win.
Stony Brook had three student-athletes win multiple events. Sophomore Mary Kate Conway, senior Jess Salmon, and junior Reagan MacDonald each recorded a pair of wins. Conway earned wins in the 100 and 200 free. Salmon was victorious in the 100 and 200 breast and MacDonald claimed victory in the 100 and 200 back. Conway, Salmon, and MacDonald were also members of the Seawolves’ 200 medley squad that finished in first-place.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Stony Brook got the meet off with a bang as it won the 200 medley relay to get the action going. The relay team comprised of sophomore Briana Liew, Conway, Salmon, and MacDonald recorded a final time of 1:50.50 to pick up the win.
- Zoe Rebol secured Stony Brook’s first individual win of the meet as she claimed first-place in the 1000 free with a final time of 1:49.80. Erin Lamirande finished right behind in second.
- MacDonald touched the wall in 59.98 and 2:11.97 to secure wins in the 100 and 200 back, respectively.
- Salmon earned a pair of individual wins in the 100 and 200 breast with final times of 1:06.50 and 2:27.71.
- Maddy Enda recorded a time of 2:09.46 to win the 200 fly. Emma Hawkins followed closely behind in third with a final time of 2:14.64.
- Conway kept the momentum going with first place finishes in both the 100 and 200 free clocking in at 54.18 and 1:58.67, respectively.
- Brenna McLaughlin and Caroline Dunn rounded out the podium for Stony Brook in the 200 back finishing earning second-place and third-place finishes behind MacDonald.
- Bridget Montgomery secured a first-place finish in the 500 free with a final time of 5:33.42. Lamirande finished right behind in second with a time of 5:40.53.
- Sara DiStefano recorded a mark of 217.05 which was good for a first-place finish in the 1-meter diving.

The Seawolves are back in the pool tomorrow, January 23, as they head north to take on New Hampshire at 12 p.m. The meet will be streamed on AmericaEast.TV.

NEWARK, N.J. — The NJIT men’s swimming and diving team hosted its final home meet of the 2021-22 season on Saturday afternoon, welcoming in-state rival Rider and Stony Brook for a tri-meet pitting the Highlanders against the Broncs and Rider’s women’s team facing off against the Seawolves.
Before the event, Highlander head coach Ron Farina and his staff took time to honor the team’s five graduating seniors: Justin Andersen, John Battikha, Joshua Franco, Max Hafen, and Edward Madrigal.
In the meet, the Highlanders would fall to the Broncs, 195-105, while the Seawolves women defeated Rider, 166, 103.

“Today’s meet was a great one for us. The guys stepped up and raced a very good Rider team. Even though we fell short on a number of races, I like where the team is headed as we enter our taper phase in preparation for America East Championships,” Farina said after the meet.

NJIT will hit the road to face Lafayette on Wednesday, January 26 for its last dual meet before Championship season begins. The America East Championships will be held from February 10-13 at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA and the CSCAA National Invitational will take place on March 10-12 at Beacon Health Center in Elkhart, IN.
