Registration is now open for the 15th FINA World Masters Championships to be held in Montreal this summer.
Set for July 27 to Aug. 10 at Parc Jean-Drapeau, the event incorporates pool swimming and open water swimming, as well as diving, water polo and synchronized swimming.
Adult athletes ages 25 and up from all corners of the world can register at: https://finamasters2014.
The FINA World Masters Championships is the Federation’s biggest competition in terms of participation, with participants competing in five-year age groups as high as 90-94, or even higher if necessary. The vibrant Masters movement actively promotes fitness, friendship, understanding and competition.
“Sport is sport for life,” said Pierre Lafontaine, co-president of the organizing committee.
Lafontaine pointed out the history of major aquatics competitions in Montreal, from the 1976 Olympics to events such as the 2005 FINA World Championships and 2013 IPC World Championships.
Lafontaine also issued a special challenge to Canadians, especially former national team members who have represented the country on the world stage.
“Let’s see how many retired Olympians and past national team members come to this event. It’s a great venue,” Lafontaine said. “Let’s try to get as many Canadian Masters athletes as we can participating in any of the aquatic sports.”
