RACE VIDEO: Destin Lasco Breaks NAG Record in 11-12 50 Back

Above, see 12-year old Destin Lasco of Pleasantville Aquatics swim a 24.56 in the 50 yard backstroke. Even in the sprintiest of the backstroke races, Lasco swims with the same relaxed control that we saw in his 100 (video here) and 200 (video here) earlier in the meet.

Many thanks to his coach Dimitar Petrov for sharing videos of these fantastic swims.

200 IM in 1.57.89. Close to the old NAG record by Chas Morton. Happy to have that race in video. We can appreciate all 4 strokes from Mr Lasco.

Would love to see some underwater footage. He must pull a TON of it……crazy!! Also curious his training since all the talk about MA & USRPT.

You can tell this kid put the work in and listens to his coaches: During the race his mind “goes blank” and he just focuses on the basics: Keep it long, work the walls, keep your head down on freestyle, etc.

Paul…Destin and the rest of his teammates never train sets under 50s’. Even 50s are rear in his training. He swims 6 days a week and only trains backstroke on Tuesday. He is 12 and does average swim for 12 year old boy. One day for each stroke…one day IM…and one day longer swim. However, we swim 2 x 25 at the end of warm-up at meets 🙂 Our focus this season was 200IM and 400IM. He swam 4:15 unrest three weeks ago (I believe he can go 4:10)… but at the end of the day we were happy with 3 NAG Records in backstroke last weekend. We do not specially train underwater, starts and turns…we do it during practice… Read more »
