Race Footage: Ethan Dang Re-Breaks 11-12 200 Breaststroke NAG Record

Ethan Dang of King Aquatic Club has been dropping time in the 200 breaststroke like it’s a game over the past few weeks. It has only been a few weeks since he broke the record for the first time on July 10th with a time of 2:29.01. Last night, he crushed his personal best time and 11-12 National Age Group Record time to win the 11-12 200 breaststroke with a 2:27.88 at the PNS Long Course Championship Meet. Take a look at his comparative splits:

r:+0.76 – 33.89 – 38.11 – 38.73 – 38.28 = 2:29.01
r:+0.75 – 33.20 – 37.85 – 38.52 – 38.31 = 2:27.88

As reported by SwimSwam contributor Anne Lepesant and Lyle Campbell:

Before Dang began his assault on the boys 11-12 200 breast record it had belonged to Sean Mahoney of Terrapins Swim Team, who went 2:30.12 in 2001. No one else had come within four seconds of the record since. The all-time top 10 times were:

1- 2:29.01 Ethan Dang 2014 PN KING
2- 2:30.12 Sean Mahoney 2001 PC TERA
3- 2:34.16 Joshua Choi 2005 SN SMST
4- 2:34.45 James Daugherty 2011 CA SBSC
5- 2:35.12 Jake Foster 2013 OH CM
6- 2:35.42 Will Licon 2007 BD WETT
7- 2:35.43 Shane Blinkman 2013 MN HASA
8- 2:36.61 Devin Truong 2011 PV RMSC
9- 2:36.81 Benjamin Winn 2014 PC SCSC
10- 2:37.15 Nick Arakelian 2009 MI KAW

Dang is within .01 of the NAG in the 100 breast with 1:09.49. The current record holder, Maverick Smalley of The Woodlands, went 1:09.48 in 2000. The only other 12-year-old boy ever to have gone under 1:10 is Michael Andrew, who clocked a 1:09.95 in 2012.

Incredible. It looks like he’s already got a body-length lead by the 15 meter mark. Exceptional technique.

He’s not a one trick pony, either. He won the 100 free tonight with a 57 high!

Amazing performance!
He’s gonna smash the 100 breast record as well.
