Jerod Magazine, from Coto de Caza, California, has made a verbal commitment to the Providence College Friars for 2015-16. His twin brother, Aaron Magazine, previously committed to Towson.
“The reason why I chose Providence was because of its respected reputation for having amazing academics and athletics. The coaching staff is very focused on making sure their swimmers perform to their full potential and the team is very family oriented. I can’t wait to be a Friar!!”
Magazine swims for the Coto de Caza Coyotes in Orange County and attends Santa Margarita Catholic High School. Magazine competed in the 500 free at the 2014 CIF-Southern Section Division I Championships, but his real progress came over the summer when he dropped 8.6 seconds in his 200m free, 12.2 in the 400m free, and 31.4 in the 1500. His best times are:
200y free: 1:48.72 200m free: 2:00.25
500y free: 4:43.35 400m free: 4:14.27
1000y free: 10:00.46 800m free: 8:53.91
1650y free: 16:52.47 1500m free: 16:58.20
100y back: 55.96 100m back: 1:04.33
200y back: 1:58.92 200m back: 2:17.04
The Big East Conference only swims two finals at their conference championships, but already Magazine would have been a point winner for the Friars at the 2014 meet. Both his 500 free and his 1650 times would have made B-finals; these were events in which the Friars could have used a few extra points. Magazine should be a great asset to Providence from his freshman year forward.
