SAN JOSE, Calif. – Reka Kovacs broke a pool record and placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:56.61 to lead the Spartans in their 151-149 win over Fresno State.
- Ela Freiman broke a pool record in the 400-yard IM with a personal best time of 4:18.60.
- Ellie Shorten took first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.62 and the 200-yard backstroke with a 2:03.33.
- Reagan Mathieson recorded a season-best and placed first in both the 100-yard freestyle with a 50.76 and the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.38 to lead the Spartans in their
- Kovacs finished the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.89 to take first in the event.
- Dalton Sickon recorded a 23.50 in the 50-yard freestyle to place first.
- Vilma Linberg recorded the fourth-fastest 200-yard breaststroke in SJSU history with a time of 2:13.59 to place second in the event.
- The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Quincy Key, Lais e Silva, Sickon, and Mathieson placed first with a time of 1:32.18.
- This is the first time the Spartans have beat Fresno State since 2014.
- Jenna Jagielski placed first in the 3-meter dive with a score of 308.18.

SAN JOSE, Calif.– Fresno State swim and dive fell to the Spartans by two points in the final dual meet of the season at SRAC pool.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State found themselves neck and neck against the Spartans in Saturday afternoon’s meet. Bulldogs came away with six event wins to finish out the day.
Through the first six events, ‘Dogs earned three event wins (200 medley relay, 1000 freestyle and 100 breaststroke taking a 14 point lead over the Spartans. Freshman Jenna Pulkkinen saw her first event win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.29, an event that has seen strong consistency with Aliz Kalmar for the Bulldogs.
Spartans won the next three events until Aliz Kalmar, Julia Matney and Grace Ally claimed the next three for Fresno State.
Matney swam a lifetime best in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.50. Bulldogs went 1-3 in the 100 butterfly with Mackenzie Hutler (55.51) and Clara Laskey (57.38).
Ally earns another event win for the 1 meter springboard with 269.03.
Fresno State held a five point lead, 145-140, going into the final event of the afternoon the 200 freestyle relay. A few hundredths of a second would make all the difference for a first place finish to earn the final points. Spartans time was .79 ahead of the Bulldogs.
“The team did great today, we’re disappointed to not get the win,” said head coach Jeanne Fleck. “We’re set and getting ready for conference championships later this month.”
