The #13 swimmer on our list of the top 20 girls in the high school class of 2017, Pine Crest Swimming’s Marta Ciesla, has given her verbal commitment to the USC Trojans.
Ciesla is one of the top sprinters in the class and a member of the USA Swimming Women’s National Junior Team for 2016-17. She won the 50 free at Speedo Junior Nationals in the summer of 2015 and Speedo Winter Juniors East last December. Ciesla represented the U.S. at 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Maui, earning a silver medal in the 50m free and winning the consolation of the 400 free relay on the USA B team.
Ciesla swam for Pine Crest School as a freshman and a sophomore, winning the 100 both years and the 50 as a sophomore, and taking second in the 50 as a freshman.
Her top SCY times are:
- 50 free – 22.52
- 100 free – 48.97
- 200 free – 1:49.53
Ciesla’s addition to USC will be, at a minimum, a boon for their relays, with Anika Apostalon and Chelsea Chenault graduating after this season. Ciesla should also have an opportunity to work on her 200 free. Kirsten Vose, currently a sophomore at USC, had a 1:47.9 when she committed. A little over a year later she was going 1:44.19 at Pac-12s and led off the Trojan relay at 1:43.20.
Also verbally committed to the University of Southern California class of 2021 are Isabella Rongione and Maggie Aroesty.
