#PhelpsFace Meets Jim Parsons In New Commercial (Watch)

The most decorated Olympian of all-time, American Michael Phelps, has done anything but slow down since hanging up his goggles after racking up his 23rd gold medal in Rio.

The 31-year-old has been prolific in pop culture as of late, appearing on the television shows “America’s Got Talent” and “Lip Sync Battle.” Baby Boomer’s daddy has also taken part in the celebrity match of the 2016 Ryder Cup, while most recently leading his favorite NFL team, the Baltimore Ravens, onto the football field.

Look for Phelps’ brand to continue to grow, as he is now set to appear in a new commercial for global electronics company, Intel. Within the Intel ad, the banter between Phelps and ‘Big Bang Theory’ star Jim Parsons is based on the swimmer’s #PhelpsFace, the ‘grimace seen around the world’ that was made famous during the Rio Games.

While in the ready room awaiting his 200m butterfly semi-final, the ‘GOAT’ is seen sneering at rival Chad Le Clos of South Africa, as the latter performed a shadow boxing routine. Phelps’ steely, deathly glare was instantly hashtagged #PhelpsFace and was an internet meme sensation throughout the Games.

Intel takes the scene one step further in the commercial, complete with a Le Clos look-alike performing not only boxing moves, but also some karate chops for extra effect.

Of the partnership between Phelps and Intel, Chief Marketing Officer of the company, Steve Fund, tells The Wall Street Journal that he felt ‘working with Mr. Phelps was timely and relevant to our campaign.’

“The Intel brand is around power, performance and speed and sports is a very simple analogy to bring to life those attributes,” Fund said.
