Adam Peaty of Great Britain has served notice to his competitors that he means business at the 2015 World Championships. Peaty won the final heat of the Men’s 100m Breaststroke in 58.52, a new Championship Record. The rivalry between Peaty and Cameron van der Burgh is set to continue. The South African also performed strongly in the heats, qualifying 2nd for the Semi-Finals. Fellow Brit Ross Murdoch is also through comfortably. Hopefully this will mean more sub-58 swims in the future.
The previous record of 58.58 was held by Brenton Rickard of Australia (2009).
20 year old Peaty burst onto the World Swimming scene in 2012 at the European Junior Championships where he managed a Bronze in the 200m Breaststroke. Three short years later and he is now a World Record breaking swimmer who posted a 57.92 at the British Championships in April this year.
No-one knows just how far the young Brit can go. His personal motto of “To be the best I can be every day” certainly held true on Day 1 of competition at #Kazan2015
