Just minutes after American swimmer Ryan Murphy took bronze at the the 2024 Paris Olympics, he was surprised with a sign from his family which revealed that he and his wife, Bridget Konttinen, would be expecting a daughter. The news was also confirmed by commentator Rowdy Gaines on the NBC broadcast that aired his race.
This is so much bigger than ANY medal. Congrats Murph!!@ryan_f_murphy pic.twitter.com/uLo5YuN7Ge

This baby will be the first child of Murphy and Konttinen, who got married in September of 2023 at Lake Tahoe. The couple has been together since 2016, and were engaged in May 2022.
Murphy had just won his seventh Olympic medal, claiming bronze in the 100 back with a time of 52.39. He was just 0.07 seconds away from silver, and 0.39 seconds away from gold. This medal was his third individual Olympic medal in the 100 back, as he won gold in 2016 and took bronze in 2021.
Meanwhile, China’s Xu Jiayu took silver, while Italian swimmer and world record holder Thomas Ceccon won gold.
Later on this meet, Murphy will swim the 200 back, where he is the reigning Olympic silver medalist. He will also be expected to swim backstroke for Team USA in the 4×100 men’s medley relay, and could potentially be used on the mixed medley relay in either prelims or finals as America’s fastest male backstroker.
Murphy should be a great father. Plenty of experience with his fathers Evgeny and Kliment
He has some experience here, having fathered Hunter Armstrong.
aww congrats ryan & bridget!!! <3
Cant wait for the mixed medley relays in years to come with phelps, dressels, murphys, and finks kids!
