Paralympic Ticket Sales Surpass 1 million

Following the massive success of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, ticket sales for the Paralympic Games have surged. Although tickets sales were initially struggling, they passed the 1 million mark on August 29th.

This year’s ticket sales for the Paralympic Games set a new record. 133,000 tickets were sold last Tuesday, August 23, and on Wednesday 145,000 tickets were sold. Both numbers crushed the record for the most tickets sold in one day, which was previously 123,000 tickets.

This is no surprise due to the massive success of the Olympic Games, in part due to the host country Brazil’s gold medal accomplishments in multiple events. In an interview with Rio 2016, ticket director Donovan Ferreti said that they “are very pleased to have passed the one million mark, it really shows that Brazilians are engaging with the Paralympic Games. There have been queues at our ticket offices and you can feel the excitement building around the city”.

The Paralympic Games will take place on September 7th through the 19th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  There are still a large number of tickets available, and they can be purchased through the Rio 2016 ticket portal.
