After winning the 100 freestyle on the first day of competition at the Bolzano International Marco Orsi took the men’s 50 freestyle in a time of 21.23. His time puts him fifth in the world rankings. Orsi finished ahead of Steffen Deibler who recorded a time of 21.92 and Ryan Lochte who posted a 22.11.
Earlier in the evening Deibler took the men’s 100 butterfly posting a time of 50.89, well off his season’s best of 49.33. He once again got the best of Lochte who finished second in a time of 51.49. Markus Deibler finished third in a time of 52.71.
After finishing second in the 100 backstroke Arkady Vyatchanin won the men’s 50 backstroke in a time of 24.30. He was followed by Niccolo Bonacchi who touched in a time of 24.38 and Giuseppe Ronci who finished in a time of 24.92.
Fabio Scozzoli dominated the 100 breaststroke recording a time of 58.73, finishing a full second ahead of Markus Deibler who finished in a time of 59.87. Edoardo Giorgetti finished third in a time of 1:00.10.
On the women’s side of the competition Katie Meili picked up her third win of the meet taking the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:05.87. She was well off her season’s best of 1:05.01 which she posted in Tokyo. Molly Hannis finished second in a time of 1:06.52 followed by Ilaria Scarcella who his the wall in a time of 1:07.87.
Natalie Coughlin won the 50 freestyle recording a time of 24.46, which places her 12th in the world rankings. She was followed by Madison Kennedy who posted a 24.78 and Erika Ferraioli who finished in a time of 24.82.
Elena Di Liddo won the women’s 100 butterfly finishing in a time of 58.34, which places her 20th in the world rankings. Di Liddo out touched her Italian teammate Silvia Di Pietro who finished in a time of 58.37. Georgia Barton finished third in a time of 59.69.
The women’s 50 backstroke was another close race as Elena Gemo took the event in a time of 27.90, six one-hundredths of a second ahead of Laura Letrari who hit the wall in a time of 27.96. Erika Ferraioli finished third in a time of 28.06 one one-hundredth of a second ahead of Madison Kennedy who touched in a time of 28.07.
