Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s Gina Cantoral has announced her verbal commitment to Marshall University for 2020-21 where she will join Avery Wilson and Paige Banton in the class of 2024.
Cantoral is a senior captain for Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls swimming and diving team, coached by Sean Clothier, and she swims year-round for coach Karney McNear at Lower Moreland Swimming & Diving. A distance freestyle/IM specialist, Cantoral has qualified for the Pennsylvania High School PIAA State Championships in each year she has been eligible. She is a team record-holder in multiple events, including the 50 free and 100 fly.
Cantoral is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American. She is coming off a strong 2018-19 swim season in which she recorded personal bests in 10 events. She qualified for and competed at the 2018 USA Swimming Women’s Open Water National Championships 5k and finished 35th overall. This summer she had a strong showing at Middle Atlantic Senior Long Course Championships, going best times in the 400 free, 100/200 fly, and 400 IM and finaling in all four events.
Marshall finished 4th at the 2019 Conference-USA Championships. Cantoral’s best times would have added points for the Herd in the 400 IM and 200 fly (B finals) and 200/500 free and 100 fly (C finals).
