In response to the delay of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Olympic Solidarity has pledged additional funds in the form of International Olympic Committee (IOC) subsidies. Olympic Solidarity has increased its budget allocated to the program for the participants of National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in the Olympic Games from USD 46.7M to USD 57M.
Per the Olympic Charter, the aim of Olympic Solidarity is to organize assistance for all the NOCs, particularly those with the greatest needs, through multi-faceted programs prioritizing the development, training of coaches and sports administrators, and promoting the Olympic ideals.
The additional funds will be available to NOCs based on their application and will help NOCs sustain additional costs that might occur in the lead-up to the now-postponed Games.
Also specified in the Olympic.org announcement is the fact that the IOC has decided to adopt a flexible approach regarding NOCs election cycles in light of Olympic postponement. The organization will let the NOCs decide, subject to their respective statutes, either to follow the four-year term of office or to follow the Olympic Games cycle and hold their elections after the Olympic Games in 2021, under certain conditions.
