Norwich Women Dominate Husson, Maine Men Down Cadets

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – In their first dual meet of the season, the Norwich University women’s swimming & diving team took down Husson University in dominant fashion in the Cadets’ home opener at Goodyear Pool on Saturday afternoon.

Norwich could not be stopped, capturing victory in 13 of 16 events against the Eagles, ultimately topping Husson, 196.5-98.5.

The Cadets were electrifying, kicking off the afternoon with a 2:03.65 effort in the 200 medley relay, three seconds faster than Husson’s second-place squad, courtesy of Kylie Farris (Leander, Texas), Alannah Kelliher (Middleboro, Mass.), Jenna Tschida (Goffstown, N.H.), and Deanna Parot (San Diego, Calif.).

Brandy Lewis (Strafford, Vt.) took the pool for back-to-back impressive outings in two of the most exhaustive events on the day, first claiming the 1000 freestyle on 11:41.97, finishing over a minute faster than second place.  She then returned for the 200 freestyle, topping Husson’s Erin Madden by nearly three seconds with a 2:10.07 effort.

Farris handed the Cadets their last individual victory in the 50 backstroke before the Eagles scooped up a pair of wins in the 50 breaststroke and 100 butterfly despite strong efforts from Abbey Houghton (Dover, N.H.) and Tschida.  Kelliher then collected a win in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in 26.30.

Reilly Laitala (Sterling, Mass.), the reigning GNAC Women’s Diver of the Year, enjoyed success in her first action at Goodyear Pool this season, securing dominant scores in the 1 meter diving optional (175.20) and, later on, the 1 meter diving voluntary (155.48).

With the exception of Husson taking the 50 butterfly, Norwich continued to steamroll throughout the afternoon, which included an individual victory from Kaylin Creel (Huntersville, N.C.) in the 100 backstroke.  Lewis also took her third win, this time in the 500 freestyle with a 5:39.83 time.

The Cadets concluded their stellar display with a first-place 1:48.93 effort in the 200 freestyle relay, as Creel, Parot, Lewis, and Kelliher all swam legs to cap off the win over the Eagles.

The Cadets will continue their homestand by entertaining another Maine foe next weekend, this time hosting Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 12:00 p.m. for a dual meet.

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men’s swimming & diving team took to the friendly confines of Goodyear Pool for the first time this season, splitting a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon with a victory over Husson University while falling to the University of Maine.

The Cadets topped the Eagles, 162-115, while the Black Bears earned a 228-59 win over Norwich.

The 200 medley relay began the competition, as Drew Bylow (Monroe, Mich.), Will Thompson (Downingtown, Pa.), Adrian Riendeau (Ridgecrest, Calif.), and Kristian Adlianitski (Cheshire, Conn.) earned a third-place finish after touching the wall in 1:38.20, narrowly behind a pair of University of Maine relay teams.

Adlianitski owned Norwich’s best individual performance of the day, collecting an individual victory in the 50 freestyle on a 21.84 effort to defeat UMaine’s Julian Lapietra by .18 seconds.

Riendeau and Thompson also enjoyed impressive outings, logging back-to-back second-place performances in the 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke on 25.51 and 27.16 times, respectively.

Prior to the start of the meet, the Cadets were recognized with a pair of ceremonial presentations for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Commissioner’s Cup, presented to Norwich University for their excellence and success in GNAC men’s sports over the 2023-24 season.  The second award that was presented was for the GNAC Male Athlete of the Year, given to former standout swimmer and 14-time individual champion Benjamin Stark ’24 during the summer.

NORTHFIELD, Vt. — The University of Maine men’s swimming & diving team posted 13 individual victories and two relay wins in a 228-59 triumph at Norwich University on Saturday afternoon.

Cam Watelet earned gold in two events, winning both the 50-yard backstroke (23.69) and the 100-yard backstroke (52.49). Calvin Comeau also earned two wins as he touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly (52.43) and the 50-yard fly (23.99).

Finn Devers won the 500-yard freestyle at 4:58.08 and the 100-yard IM with a time of 54.89. Joey Stauss won the 100-yard breaststroke at 59.49 and tied for first with teammate Noah Machristie in the 200-yard freestyle, each touching the wall at 1:45.72. Machristie also won the 100-yard freestyle (48.85) and was the runner-up in the 100-yard IM (55.32).

Kaden Kilger was strong in the 1000-yard freestyle, winning the event at 10:13.54 before taking second in the 100-yard freestyle (49.20).

Nate Teerlinck captured gold in the 50-yard breaststroke with a mark of 27.01 and placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke at 59.59.

Jon Bird posted a pair of runner-up showings, taking silver in both the 100-yard butterfly (54.40) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.75).

On the diving boards, DJ Mulligan won the 1-meter with a score of 241.72 while Jeremiah Small took gold on the 3-meter board at 151.36.

Maine’s 200-yard medley relay team of Matthew Bendoraitis, Teerlinck, Derek Whyte, and Julian LaPietra won the event with a time of 1:36.89.

Kilger, Donovan Durand, Connor Peaden, and Comeau took gold in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:29.22.

NORTHFIELD, Vt. — The Husson University women’s swimming & diving head dropped its head-to-head matchup against Norwich University 196.5-98.5 on the road Saturday.

The Eagles 200-yard medley relay team of senior Erin Madden, sophomore Logan Williams and freshmen Morgan Collins and Mariah Muskavitch finished second with a time of 2:06.65.

Freshman Gabby Hoffman swam to a third-place performance in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 13:21.09, while Madden clocked a 2:12.92 to finish second in the 200-yard freestyle event.

Senior Grace Rocheleau and freshman Sofia Herrington finished third and fourth, respectively in the 50-yard backstroke with times of 33.07 and 33.88.

Williams record her second-straight win the 50-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 37.34, while Collins won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:09.10.

Muskavitch tied for third in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.48, while sophomore Mia Winslow finished fifth at 30.19.

Junior Riley Mahoney finished second in the one-meter, five-dive event with a score of 169.81

Madden and Muskavitch finished third and fourth, respectively in the 100-yard freestyle with marks of 1:01.55 and 1:03.78.

Winslow, Herrington and Rocheleau finished third, fourth and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking times of 1:13.00, 1:13.06 and 1:13.42, respectively.

Williams added to her impressive day with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:23.60 and Hoffmann clocked a 6:32.16 to finish second in the 500-yard freestyle.

Additionally, sophomore Isabella Cost finished fifth in the 500 free with a time of 6:55.52.

Collins picked up her second win of the day in the 50-yard butterfly, winning by over three seconds with a time of 30.05, while sophomore Mackenzie Gray finished third with a 34.28 and Herrington clocked a 34.96 to finish fourth.

Mahoney added her second, second-place finish in the one-meter, six-dive event posting a score of 138.61.

Hoffman, Gray and junior Maggie Poulin finished third-fifth in the 100-yard IM, clocking times of 1:17.96, 1:21.52 and 1:34.93, respectively.
In the final event of the meet, Husson’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Madden, Winslow, Collins and Muskavitch finished second with a time of 1:53.94.
