Norwegian national record-holder Marte Lovberg is set to join the ASU Sun Devils this fall with their incoming class of 2024.

Lovberg has her name on two Norwegian relay records. At the 2016 European Championships in long course meters, Lovberg anchored Norway’s mixed 4×100 free relay to a seventh-place finish overall, splitting a 55.43. A year later, at the 2017 European SC Championships, she split a 24.81 in SCM on the third leg of Norway’s 4×50 free relay to help set the national mark.
All of Lovberg’s best freestyle times are from 2016 and 2015, though her 200 IM best came more recently in 2018 and her 400 IM best in 2017. While she’s best-suited for the 50-100-200 freestyle events, she looks to have IM chops, too.
The Sun Devil women were a bit weaker in the sprint events last season, but in contrast, their mid-distance group was on fire. They only had two women under 23 and three in the 49-second range in the 50 and 100 free last year, compared to having three women under 1:45 in the 200 and three under 4:40 in the 500.
Lovberg will get one season of overlap with rising seniors Emma Nordin and Erica Laning, the respective #1 and #3 freestylers on the team last year in both the 200 free and 500 free. She’ll also get a year with Camryn Curry, the Sun Devils’ top sprinter last season, who is also a rising senior.
Lovberg will join the Sun Devils this fall alongside Erin Milligan, Pilar McCann and Elli Straume.
