Sprint Freestyler Erin Milligan Verbally Commits to Arizona State (2020)

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Erin Milligan from Collierville, Tennessee has verbally committed to Arizona State University. Milligan is a current high school senior at Collierville High School in suburban Memphis and will arrive in Tempe in the fall of 2020.

Milligan is primarily a sprint freestyler, though ironically her next best event, the 200 IM, is a far superior time than she has swum in any of the other 3 strokes individually. She is also a very good long course swimmer, which Arizona State head coach Bob Bowman, who for years ran an NBAC elite training group that was hyper-focused on long course training, should appreciate.

Milligan finished 3rd in the 100 free and 5th in the 200 IM at the 2019 Tennessee High School State Championship meet. While she didn’t get a chance to swim the 50 free individually or on a flat start at that meet, she split as fast as a 23.51 on a rolling start.

Best Times in Yards/long course Meters:

  • 50 free – 24.05/26.66
  • 100 free – 50.65/56.98
  • 200 free – 1:52.84/2:06.73
  • 200 IM – 2:05.42/2:23.66
  • 400 IM – 4:29.40/5:05.91

The sprint freestyles are an area where the Sun Devils really need some depth – their top 100 freestyler early on in the 2019 season is Cierra Runge, whose primary focus is actually distance freestyle, in 51.65 from the team’s dual meet against Utah. Last season, they only had 2 swimmers (Fanny Teijonsalo, who is now graduated, and Camryn Curry, who is now a junior) swim under 50 seconds in the 100 yard free. The team graduated 3 of its 4 best 100 freestylers at the end of last season, and they brought in a lot of them in the class of 2019 as well. That includes swimmers like Jade Folske at 24.2/51.3, Lindsay Looney at 23.0/50.1, and Katrina Marty at 23.8/52.1.

For Milligan, who dropped big chunks of time as a junior (over a second in the 100 free, almost a second in the 50), this will continue that trend of speed-oriented additions for the Sun Devils.

Milligan trains with the Memphis Thunder Aquatic Club.
