The National Junior College Athletic Association has released its 2024-25 women’s and men’s swimming & diving awards.
Here were this year’s recipients.
Women
Scarlett Ulatowski, Monroe Community College (N.Y.)
Ulatowski was named both the NJCAA Women’s Swimmer of the Year and the Non-Scholarship Women’s Swimmer of the Meet after finishing fifth in three events at the organization’s national meet from March 5-8.
Ulatowski was fifth in the 100 individual medley (personal-best time of 1:03.26), the 50 breaststroke (personal-best time of (30.99) and the 100 breast (1:08.40).
She also swam the 50 free, where she finished 10th (25.49).
Alexandra Andueza, Indian River State College (FL)
A sophomore from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Andueza was named the female Diver of the Year after winning the national meet with 317.50 points. She repeated as champion after winning the title last year as a freshman.
Sandra Bullock, Southwestern Oregon Community College
Bullock was named the women’s Coach of the Year after helping guide Southwestern Oregon to a runner-up finish.
Jamestown Community College was named the Spyke Johnson Non-Scholarship Female Team Award winner.
Men
Zach Johnson, Jamestown Community College (N.Y.)
Johnson also earned two postseason awards, the NJCAA Swimmer of the Year and the Non-Scholarship Men’s Swimmer of the Meet at the national meet.
A freshman from South Africa, Johnson set personal bests in the 100 individual medley (55.59), the 200 breaststroke (2:14.01, the 100 breast (58.79) and the 50 breast (27.11) at the national meet.
Johnson finished eighth in each of his three breaststroke events and ninth in the 100 IM.
He also swam a personal-best time of 48.97 during his leg as part of the 400 freestyle relay team.
Justin Halford, Indian River State College (FL)
A senior from Yorkshire, New York, Halford was named Diver of the Year after he took home the title at the NJCAA national meet, collecting 355.80 points. He took the top spot after finishing third last year.
Sion Brinn, Indian River State College (FL)
Brinn was named swimming Coach of the Year after presiding over an Indian River team that won its 51st straight national championship with 718.6 points. Southwestern Oregon Community College was second with 615.7 points.
David Suba, Indian River State College (FL)
Suba was named the diving Coach of the Year for a ninth time for both the men and women, helping coach his men divers to a 1-2-3 finish. Spencer Biggs and Dorian Taylor finished in second and third, respectively, behind Halford. In the women’s event, Zoie Opp of Indian River finished second behind Andueza.
In addition, the Monroe Community College team earned the Al Zamsky Non-Scholarship Male Team award. Monroe finished fifth at the national meet.
