Nitro’s Jack Grieshop Gives Verbal Nod to UC San Diego for 2020

Fitter and Faster Swim Clinics is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jack Grieshop, a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Cedar Park, Texas, has announced his verbal commitment to swim at the University of California, San Diego. He will join his brother Sean Grieshop, a junior at Cal, in the University of California system next fall.

“My swim journey has taught me to work hard and never give up and I am so happy I did because it is an honor to announce my verbal commitment to swim at UC San Diego. I love this sport and am excited to be part of Coach Djordjevic’s growing program at an excellent UC campus, and proud to say I’m a Triton. Thanks to my parents, brothers, coaches and God for this awesome opportunity.”

Grieshop is a back/fly/IM specialist who trains year-round with Nitro Swimming. He competed at Speedo Junior Nationals this summer in the 100m fly and 200m fly. He went best times in both those events (56.77/2:05.07) and in the 200m free (1:57.39) at the 2018 version of that meet. In short-course season, Grieshop swam the 100/200 back and 100/200 fly at 2018 Winter Juniors West and earned PBs in the 50 back and 100 fly. Grieshop is a Winter US Open qualifier in the 100 back, a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 200 fly, and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 200 back and 100 fly.

UCSD is transitioning from NCAA D2 to D1 and competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The Tritons came in 6th out of 6 teams at the 2019 conference meet. Grieshop would have added points in the 200 back (B final), 100 back (B final), 100 fly (B final), and 100 fly (C final). He will overlap one year with Tyler James, two years with Ivan Kurakin and Mason Thompson, and three with Grant Reeves, Davis Taylor, Lance Freiman, and George Liu.

Top SCY times:

  • 200 back – 1:51.38
  • 100 back – 50.56
  • 200 fly – 1:50.71
  • 100 fly – 50.67
  • 400 IM – 4:12.36
  • 200 IM – 1:57.41
