Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Nico Butera has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin in the class of 2025.

Butera is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American who is a member of the Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics (PEAQ) National Team. He swims under coach Dave Schraven and trains with Josh Matheny and Maxine Parker. Butera swims mainly free, fly, and IM. Last summer, having just turned 16 a month earlier, Butera went best times in the LCM 50/100/200 free, 100 back, 100 fly, and 200 IM at NCSA Summer Championship. He finaled in the 50 free (16th), 100 free (7th), 200 free (11th), and 200 IM (12th). At the spring version of the same meet, he made finals in the 200 free and 200 IM and notched PBs in the SCY 200 free, 200 fly, and 100/200 IM.
Butera is a Summer Juniors qualifier in the 100/200 free and 200 IM and a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 50 free. He has dropped a significant amount of time over the past year, including 6.5 seconds in the 200m IM, 5 seconds in the 200m free, 2.3 seconds in the 100m free, 2.4 seconds in the 200y free, and 2 seconds in the 200y IM.
