NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. — Niagara swimming dominated in both men’s and women’s competition Saturday, defeating Youngstown State in a dual meet. The Purple Eagles won the combined meet 340-180, with the women winning 186-72 and the men prevailing 154-108.
The Niagara men closed out the meet in spectacular fashion, setting a pool record in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Reid Tichy, Levi Morgan, Holden Brock, and Nathan Dragon touched first in 3:05.13, highlighting a day of Purple Eagle dominance.
Natalie Killion led the Niagara women with victories in multiple events. The sophomore won the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.69), 100-yard backstroke (56.91), and 200-yard individual medley (2:09.18).
The Purple Eagles also got strong performances from Alaina Pitton, who took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.28) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.83). Freshman Marty Divis captured the 1000-yard freestyle (10:28.72) and later added a win in the 500-yard freestyle (5:10.02).
On the men’s side, Reid Tichy won both the 100-yard backstroke (51.42) and 200-yard backstroke (1:53.84). Nathan Dragon contributed victories in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.11) and 50-yard freestyle (20.88).
Lance Cruz touched first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.65) for Niagara, while Sean Finley claimed victory in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.10).
The Purple Eagles swept both the men’s and women’s 200-yard medley relays to open the meet and continued their relay dominance to the end. The women’s 400 freestyle relay team of Pitton, Megan Jackson, Claire Gorton, and Paige South won in 3:34.45.

The Youngstown State men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs were back in action as they took the trip to Niagara for a dual with the Purple Eagles.
The Penguin women collected 12 top-three finishes during the meet. Miriam Frass finished second in the 1000 free, as she swam a time of 10:35.79. She was followed by her teammate Olivia Sweetman, who clocked a time of 10:38.54. Oliwia Kaniak put together a good performance in the 100 breaststroke, swimming a time of 1:06.07, good enough for a second-place finish. Allison Ramirez Romero finished third in the 200 butterfly, clocking a time of 2:13.10.8.
The Penguin women were well-represented towards the top of the leaderboard in the 200 breaststroke, as they finished two-three-four in the event. Oliwia Kaniak’s time of 2:24.47 was good enough for a runner-up finish, Macy Wang finished third with a time of 2:33.15, and Eloise Fisher finished closely behind Wang in fourth place, swimming a time of 2:34.20. The Penguins also had great performances in the 500 free as well, where they had a second-place finish from Miriam Frass (5:15.56), third-place finish from Hailey Clark (5:18.22), and fourth-place finish from Morgan Glass (5:21.31). Three Penguins in the top four were also duplicated in the 100 butterfly, as Natalia Andres finished second as she swam a time of 1:01.13, Allison Ramirez Romero finished third with a time of 1:02.28, and Zoe Gallagher rounded out Penguins in the top four as she finished with a time of 1:04.23. The final individual swimming event of the day, the 200 IM, was very good for the Youngstown State women as well. Macy Wang finished runner-up in this event as she clocked a time of 2:14.41, Sydnie Collins finished third as she swam a time of 2:17.71, and Eloise Fisher finished behind her in fourth as she clocked a time of 2:21.02.
The women’s relay teams also finished in the top three in their respective events. The 200-medley relay squad of Anna Kozinska, Eloise Fisher, Allison Ramirez Romero, and Chiara Vetter finished third as they had an overall time of 1:52.32. The 400 relay group of Madelyn Mahoney, Olivia Sweetman, Miriam Frass, and Oliwia Kaniak also finished third, as they swam a collective time of 3:52.62.
The women fell to the Purple Eagles in the overall team score, which was 186-72.
Poyraz San Askin highlighted the performances for the men during the meet, as his winning time of 9:43.99 in the 1000 free set a new pool record, while also setting a new personal-best time for San Askin in the event. Gavin Webb finished runner-up to San Askin, swimming a time of 9:56.25.
Webb and San Askin flip-flopped in the 500 free, as this time it was Webb finishing first, clocking a time of 4:42.57, and his counterpart in San Askin finishing second, swimming a time of 4:47.83.
The Penguins had two men finish in the top three in the 100 butterfly, as Jacob Gramer won the event with a time of 49.97, and Lorenz Beck finished third, as he finished in 52.04, just seven-hundredths of a second behind Gramer.
James Slessor won the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 57.17, just seven-hundredths of a second ahead of second place. Another win on the day came from Lorenz Beck, finished first in the 200 butterfly, as he finished in 1:57.74.
The Penguins swam strong in the 100 backstroke, as Elliot Elmore finished second with a time of 52.30, and Ales Zupanec finished third, swimming a time of 53.34.
The Penguin men also got top-three finishes individually from Jacob Gramer, who finished second in the 50 free as he clocked a time of 21.16, Rares Druga, who finished second in the 100 free, as he swam a time of 46.95, Dominic Bono in the 200 backstroke, who swam a time of 1:54.92, and James Slessor, who’s time of 2:06.76 in the 200 breaststroke was good enough for a second-place finish.
The 200-medley relay team of Elliot Elmore, James Slessor, Lorenz Beck, and Jacob Gramer finished second in the event as they clocked an overall time of 1:32.31, which was just six-hundredths of a second behind first place. The 400 free relay team of Rares Druga, Gavin Redden, Jacob Gramer, and Darren Laing capped off the afternoon with a second-place finish, finishing just over one-tenth of a second behind first place, as the Penguins swam a collective time of 3:05.25.
The men fell to Niagara in the overall team score of 154-108.
