New York State Finalist Sydney Sorbello Commits to Boston University

Glenmont, New York, native Sydney Sorbello is taking her talents to the Patriot League to swim for Boston University in the fall of 2020.

“I’m elated to announce my verbal commitment to Boston University,” Sorbello said. “I can’t wait to be a part of such an amazing university and program!! Thank you to all of my coaches, family and friends for supporting me throughout my career! Go Terriers!”

Sorbello finished sixth in the 100 back (56.85) and eighth in the 50 free (24.03) at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championship in November. She also was part of Bethlehem Central High School’s runnerup 200 free relay and sixth place 200 medley relay teams.

At the 2017 NYSPHSAA meet, Sorbello placed 12th in the 100 back (57.79) and 21st in the 200 IM (2:08.40). She also was a member of Bethlehem Central’s fourth-place 200 free relay and 18th place 200 medley relay teams.

As a rookie in 2016, Sorbello was 22nd in the 100 back (58.46) and 44th in the 200 IM (2:13.35). She also was part of Bethpage Senior High School’s 13th place 200 free relay and 27th place 200 medley relay teams.

Sorbello, who swims club for the Delmar Dolfins, qualified for the 2019 Futures meet in the 50 free (23.64), 100 free (51.90), 200 breast (2:22.37) and 400 IM (4:29.33).

Sorbello’s best time in the 50 free would have ranked second on the 2018-19 Boston University roster behind senior Julimar Avila (23.29), who finished sixth at the Patriot League Championships.

Her best 200 breast clocking would have been third among Terrier swimmers behind junior Carlyn Soares (2:15.75) and senior Erin Nabney (2:17.63).

In the 400 IM, Sorbello would have ranked third on the BU roster behind Soares, who won the Patriot League title in 4:16.16, and senior Brittany Steinfeld, who finished 12th in the league at 4:26.91.
