LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State swimming and diving team took down Western Athletic Conference foe Grand Canyon, 176-109, on Senior Day, Saturday at the New Mexico State Swimming and Diving Complex.
“It was a great day to celebrate our seniors and have our last races to prep for WAC,” said head coach Rick Pratt. “Despite having some individuals dealing with the flu, others stepped up and I’m very proud of our team. Reagan was really impressive today and really led our team. Other individuals like Natalia Villa are taking their swimming to another level and that is inspiring. Our team is in a great place and now it’s time to rest and get ready.”
The Aggies started the meet with an exciting win in the 200 Medley relay. The squad of Katherine Harston, Hanna McGowan, Reagan Nentwich and Neza Kocijan out-touched Grand Canyon by two-tenths of a second, 1:44.84-1:45.05. Moana Houde-Camirand then picked another win for NM State in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:34.81.
Next, Grand Canyon’s Roaia Mashaly won the 200 Free (1:53.32) just in front of Grace Laporte who finished at 1:53.80. New Mexico State bounced back in the day’s net race with Nentwich touching first in the 100 Back (56.39) while Lindsey Muiznieks placed third at 59.11.
McGowan then finished first in the 100 Breast (1:03.19) before Harston (2:11.35), Mikaela Miele (2:12.67) and Rachel Langone (2:17.90) finished one-two-three in the 200 Fly. Next, the Lopes won the 50 Free with Kocijan (24.25) and Airam Oliva-Aun (24.26) placing second and third respectively.
GCU secured another victory, this time in the 3m dive while Raina Brommer (293.83), MacKinna Hauff (288.68) and Sheridan Decker (251.03) rounding out the top four. The day’s next race, the 100 Free, saw Lauren Hemburrow finish first with a time of (52.94) while Nentwich picked up another win in the 200 Back at 2:04.77. Lauren Wood then won the 200 Breast (2:23.11) before Grace Laporte touched first in the 500 Free (5:07.82). Next, Nentwich picked up her third individual win of the afternoon in the 100 Fly with a time of 56.14.
The Aggie divers bounced back in the 1m dive with Hauff winning the event at 270.38 with Brommer (261.38) in second. Decker finished fourth with a score of 236.48. New Mexico State’s next two races were exhibitions and it wrapped up a 176-109 win over conference for Grand Canyon.
NM State is back in action at the WAC Championships from Wednesday, Feb. 27, until Saturday, March 2 in Houston, Texas. The meet will be livestreamed via the WAC Digital Network.

The Grand Canyon women’s swimming and diving team fell to New Mexico State 176-109 in its final regular season meet of the season Saturday.
Emily Muteti earned a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.77 seconds. Muteti also finished second in the 100 butterfly in 56.21.
Roaia Mashaly was also a bright spot for the Lopes, winning the 200 freestyle (1:53.32) and finishing second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.40.
Diana Jaruseviciute finished first in the 200 individual medley, finishing in 2:11.34.
Marina McInelly collected three second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.41), 200 breaststroke (2:23.34) and 200 individual medley (2:14.30).
Hannah Barker finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:06.48) and third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.30.
Two more Lopes earned second-place finishes as Maja Uduc finished second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:51.87) and Brigit Van Der Vegte in the 100 backstroke (57.69).
GCU took second in the 200 medley relay as Van Der Vegte, McInelly, Muteti and Kyra Forrest finished with a time of 1:45.05. Robyn Edwards, Salma Zaitoun, Jaruseviciute and Mashaly finished fourth (1:47.43).
Menna El-Midany won the 3-meter dive with a winning score of 300. El-Midany also finished third in the 1-meter dive with a score of 238.13.
GCU is back in action Feb. 27-Mar. 2 for the WAC Championships in Houston.
